Here is my info
Brand new (2 weeks) Dell inspiron Desktop 530s
Windows XP sp3
Pentium Dual / E2180 @2 GHz
2 GB RAM/ 320 GB hard drive
Internet Explorer 7
About a week ago I got some malware, and started a thread. EvilFantasy walked me thru several steps and I think he got it all. But suddenly my Java stopped working, all is updated and enabled, it just wont work. I can't use any button or link if it is Java, some streaming video and pics don't work. Also, the "Search" function under the start menu and the "User Account" area in the control panel do not work. The windows will open, but they are blank (except for the search dog). EvilFantasy asked me to put in the XP cd and run the SFC but to no avail, and thats all that has been tried so far.
Thanks for any help- you guys rock

Try creating new profile: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/811151

I tried that when I saw that you suggested to a lady with the same problem, but the USER ACCOUNTS section of the control panel is one of the things that are non-functional.
-
What exactly do you mean by "non-functional"?
-
You can go as far as opening the window but they are blank (search is also the same way).
-
As for Control Panel issue, couple of things to try:
1. Install Windows Script: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=c717d943-7e4b-4622-86eb-95a22b832caa&DisplayLang=en
If that doesn't help...
2. Go Start>Run, type in:
cmd
Click OK.
Run following commands, hitting Enter after each one:
regsvr32 jscript.dll
regsvr32 vbscript.dll
regsvr32 /i mshtml.dll
Restart computer.
