Title: Windows chat
Post by: squall_01 on July 08, 2008, 05:18:16 AM
Sorry I'm having trouble understanding this.  http://support.microsoft.com/oas/default.aspx?ln=en-us&x=14&y=9&prid=3518&gprid=185522#hoursOfOperation  It says for Individual Chat Support No-charge: 2 support requests
Installation support - Unlimited no charge by phone.  Is this meaning that you only get free help twice for free?

If you got Windows from the store (didn't come installed with the computer) then yes it would be free. However, if you're worried about being charged simply make sure you're dialing the 800# and that you're not giving away any credit card #.

@Squall: if you are referring to my post, it wasn't meant to be funny - it was meant to be helpful. Are you trying to activate a copy of Windows?

Yes, however it was done the maxium you could do it.  I just want to know if this is free for two times.  Any other help will work too.

I don't know about Chat.

Why don't you try calling them:

How to activate Windows XP by phone
To contact a Microsoft customer service representative to activate Windows by phone, follow these steps:
1.   Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Accessories, point to System Tools, and then click Activate Windows.

Or, click the Windows Activation icon in the notification area.
2.   Click Yes, I want to telephone a customer service representative to active Windows now.
3.   Click Read the Windows Product Activation Privacy Statement, click Back, and then click Next.
4.   Follow the steps in the Activate Windows by phone dialog box, and then click Next.

Note The number appears now and differs based on the location that you select.
5.   When activation is completed and you receive the following message, click OK.
You have successfully activated your copy of Windows.

Good luck.

If I understand correctly, you previously activated this copy of Windows. Now you want activate the same copy from a different harddrive.

I've had similar hardware changes, had to call MS (which, quite frankly pi$#ed me off!), BUT, have always had a quick telephone resolution after I explained the hardware change.

Have you erased Windows from the first drive? If you're legit, I'd suggest calling MS again, understanding that the service rep may not speak perfect English (but is not an idiot), and explain what you have done.

Good luck.

Do you have your license key?

1. Download this diagnostics tool  MGADiag.exe (http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012) and save this to your Desktop.
2. Double-click on MGADiag.exe and click Continue
3. When the program has finished, click on Copy
4. Post the results in your next reply.

All that I know to do is to call them, as I previously stated, and that you've previously tried.

I just love how the only question I've posed, and it's now been asked 3 times, has still not been answered.
You won't get anywhere if you just pick and choose the questions to answer - imagine doing that on some sort of quiz for a qualification.

I didn't ask for anything . . . you haven't said what license type you have and unless I'm mistaken the picture does not show it.
If you don't understand what a license type is all you have to do is ask, or search it.
