Post by: computeruler on July 25, 2008, 03:09:24 PM
what one would be better? i will have like a game wmp a internet browser and a antivirus scan running all at once i may render some things MABYE photoshop things mabye file conversion things dvd ripping cd ripping multimedia type things not that much of  that though so do you think a e8400 will be reallygood for that? or will a q6600 be better?

Get the quad definitely, trust me on this.
I had to take the decision between dual and quad, and I really wish I had spent the extra few pounds for a quad core.

but im debating about the q6600 or the q9300 now the q9300 has less overclocking (not that i need to oc it that high) like 3 or 3.2ish range but the q9300 aslo has sse4 and 45nm and is nore power effecient  the q6600 doesnt have that so i dont know its like $80 more i think

Actually I'm seeing the Q9300 clocking very well indeed . . . you didn't mention overclocking so I didn't take it into account.
The E8400 by the way can surpass 4GHz easily enough.

Well, I'd say get the Q9300 . . . it'll run cooler for one thing, and also a fair bit faster even though the clock speed is only slightly faster than the Q6600.  My opinion is that if you're on a tight budget you won't regret not getting it, but if you have the cash why not spend a little extra.

You're not one to dissapoint me, Calum.  ;)

Overclocking is crucial, thus the Q9300 fails. The Q6600, Q6700 and Q9450 if you have an X38 or better board are the current correct choices.

With a Quad -Core  why is overclocking crucial ? ?
