Title: Sound skipping when computer is busy.
Post by: Nuyashaki on July 31, 2008, 06:48:35 PM
Windows XP SP 2
Intel Pentium 4 processor
1 GB of ram
Diamond Radeon X1550 PCIE
Sound Card built into motherboard.

Motherboard:
Product Name: D975XBX2
Version: AAD53350-507
S.N.: BQB271900140
Intel Desktop Board D975XBX2
Intel 975X Express Chipset

It just started one day when my brother got on. I've looked in other places, and they may have the same problem (I think), but they have separate sound cards.
It may be be hardware related, but I doubt it. I think (please note the THINK part) it has something to do with this hardware interrupts thingy. I have  Process Explorer by sysinternals, and whenever my computer is busy the hardware interrupts part reaches around 45% of my CPU on average (I don't know if that's normal or not). Please note; that's just what I think.

When I try to play a sound it will play but in the middle of it, my mouse will freeze for a very little amount of time; when the skips happen.

It started happening when our internet was out, so I doubt it was from a program or anything.

I've even tried getting a separate sound card, and that didn't work.
That sound card was an old Creative Labs one.

I've been trying to fix it for a week and can't. If you need anymore information please tell me.

I did update my drivers, I did scan for viruses, I did install updates. Still having the problem.

Worth a try doing a system restore and see if you have same pblm

Tried and it said it could not restore to this restore point. Did it with a different one, same thing. So I gave up. I saw my antivirus delete some of those restore points though. I use avast!.

I also forgot to mention if the computer is not busy, it can play sounds almost perfectly.

Avast doesn't delete restore points.

Did you try to reinstall sound driver?

I went to the drivers and clicked update drivers a while ago. That didn't fix it.

The log is clean...

That's not enough. You have to download the newest audio driver, uninstall current one, and install fresh one.

If you don't know, where to find it, post your computer brand, and model.

Hey, I just uninstalled my current drivers and tried to find drivers for my board. I think I messed up, because when my computer rebooted, I got a blue screen right off the bat. So maybe you can choose for me, because apparently I can't.

This is my motherboard model:
http://support.intel.com/support/motherboards/desktop/d975xbx2/

I went to latest drivers and chose choice number 3. That wasn't right >.>

I don't know what you mean by  number 3. I don't see any  number 3.
I believe, you should get Intel High Definition Audio.

Screw it. I tried to install some drivers, now I get a bluescreen at startup and I can't find what's causing it. I'm just going to convince my brother to let me reformat.

There is something wrong there.
It's very unlikely to get BSOD by installing sound drivers. I surely don't know, WHAT you did install.
Try repair: http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepairinstall.htm

lol Get this: I go to do that repair thingy, and I find out I have unpartitioned space on my harddrive. So I installed a new version of XP without having to reformat!! Problem solved :D Thanks!
