When I open internet explorer and then close the window, the process doesn't close in the task manager processes.
Eventually I have multiple instances of explorer running and after there are about 6 or 7 instances of it running and I click on a link My internet explorer freezes. When this happens the only way I can get it to work is to manually end the processes in the task manager. When there is only one instance of it running the pop up I click on before opens up and everything is fine again until another group of explorer instances have appeared in the processes window. and I have to go Through it all again.
This has only been happening for about ten days now.
I am running IE7 on a dual core machines with Windows Vista home premium.
Thanks for any help you can give.

Just to be sure - several times you mention "explorer," I assume that each and every time you meant to say Internet Explorer. Right?
1) Do a complete virus scan.
2) Download and run ccleaner: http://www.ccleaner.com/download/builds/downloading-slim. Be sure that the first three items are checked for Internet Explorer on the Windows tab; select Temporary Files under System; go to Options>Advanced, deselect the first item - temp files older than 48 hours. Any other CC selections are up to you - you may want to spend a little time on their site and read the tutorials. Re-boot and try IE again.
3) Try a reset on IE: from within IE, Tools>Internet Options>Advanced tab, reset.
4) Do you have another web browser installed - any problems with it?

Man you're a genius. The things you suggested first, Virus scan and running CCleaner I had already done. And yes I was referring to
IE explorer each time. But that resetting Explorer from within the program did the trick. it works perfectly now.
I have to re configure my setup to what it was before the problem but that is a minor thing, so thanks very much for your help!!
Can you tell me what you think was causing this problem so that I can prevent it from happening again?
Thanks again buddy you saved me a whole lot of grief.
Trevor.

Most likely, you had problem with either some IE setting, or add-on.

You're probably right, but I haven't installed anything new lately. so I don't know what it could have been.
Ahh the mysteries of Microsoft ;)
