Title: Alternatives to Acronis...
Post by: stevejohnson1958 on August 16, 2008, 08:46:11 PM
I keep seeing users refer other members to Acronis...

While this may be a good alternative for drive imaging...has anyone considered the FREE alternatives?

Acronis isn't free...and it's better for drive imaging as opposed to simply formatting and partitioning.

If you're looking for free drive imaging software there's always...

Drive Image XML (http://www.snapfiles.com/reviews/DriveImage-XML/DriveImageXML.html) and HD Clone Free Edition (http://www.snapfiles.com/reviews/HDClone_Free_Edition/hdclonefree.html)

Snapfiles says (http://www.fileupyours.com/files/185178/45star.gif) so it must be pretty good.
Anyone care to try it  ::)

Love the rolling eyes... ;D

I have tried both...my personal favorite...and one I'd highly recommend:  HD Clone Free Edition.

BTW...no adware/spyware...guaranteed.

I also prefer HDClone to Drive Image....

And BTW i'm the one who keeps recommending Acronis ! !

 ;D

Guilty as charged.

But seriously for 30 Bucks shipped and with all the additional Features not found in an open source product i still think it's a sound recommendation.

LMAO...

I thought it was you...

Just wanted others to know there are FREE alternatives.

No harm...no foul.

Acronis Features Page (http://www.acronis.com/homecomputing/products/trueimage/)...
More than one page.
I still say for 30 Bucks shipped it's the best out there.

I like and use Free alternatives to every App there is...but not when it comes to my data.

I like and use Free alternatives to every App there is...but not when it comes to my data.

Why's that?  Do you think "free" programs that offer the same thing don't live up to Acroinis' standards?

I can understand your statement if you're used to the program...and can swear by it.  However, the way I look at it...if a free program can do the same thing...why spend the money?

That's like telling someone who's paying for Norton Internet Security...not to try other free malware protection.

Don't get me wrong...I'm not trying to start an argument here.  I just wanted to know why you'd not be willing to use freeware when it came to your data.

Visit the link and find a freeware app that can do what it does including incremental backups; backups to FTP; backups by set directories; scheduling etc.....

Trust me...it ain't out there.

Did i mention 64Bit as well ? ?

Then some people are more just comfortable knowing they have live support which doesn't come with the free software, on top of the extra features Patio mentioned. 30 bucks isn't much for peace of mind.

I agree...

Granted, HD Clone can't do what Acronis can, however, there are alternative versions available, as well...at a cost to the consumer:

http://www.miray.de/products/sat.hdclone.html#versions

I'm not knocking the Acronis program...it does have more bells and whistles and is a proven piece of software.

My original post was only to inform those who are looking for alternative "free" drive imaging software.

I've used HD Clone...and it does what I want it to do...at no cost to me.  Should I decide I need a better package...I, too, would probably prefer Acronis, as well.
