Title: How come i can't play this game?
Post by: Rhinosaur on August 18, 2008, 02:22:58 PM
Hi all, i recently installed a game on my laptop and i am barley able to play it.

The game is Grand Theft Auto San Andreas, i can play it at about 3 frames per second, it has dropped down to about .2 fps at times, so bassicaly i can't play the game. The basics of my comps specs are...

Pentium 4 2.5 GHZ
512 MB RAM
64 MB Vido Card

GTA's minimum requirments are

1GHZ or better
256 MB RAM
64 MB Video card

I meet all the requirments and i am on the lowest settings possible, so whats the deal?

None that i run on purpose, looking at the task manager shows 36 procceses running- most of which are SYSTEM or Owner, i don't know what is important so i dont trust myself to start ending proccesses. With all the procceses running i have around 360 mb's free.

First, I would head over here and follow the steps:

And then I would come here to make sure your computer can run GTA properly.

You would be better off with a 128mb video card....

For San Andreas, you would need a really high end 64 mb card.

You'd need a dedicated card, which I'm assuming you don't have.
Laptops aren't meant for gaming.

Actually i was able to play the game a little better- i used an ice pack and a bowl thing to make sure the computer was sucking in ice cold air- that atleast makes sure that the comp doesn't slow down quite as fast...

Oh well i guess i will have to put more work into my other comp.

Sounds like your computer may also be overheating.
Shut it down, then use something to hold the fans in place and blow hard into all the vent,s or use compressed air.  That should help clear out accumulated dust.

That's my past problem. The problem fixed when I upgraded my video card. Not all 64 MB video card able to handle this game.
