I recently bought a new flash drive to transfer files between computers... when I plug it into my USB port, it finds the hardware and says it's installed and ready to use. I start to transfer files onto it. After a couple files it stops and tell me "Cannot create or replace (file name): cannot find the specified file." Then when I open the drive it says it's empty even if there's files on it. If I disconnect and reconnect (or uninstall and reinstall), it may (or may not) work for a minute and then repeat the same problem. My Window's Updates are all up-to-date (I'm using Windows XP). I've formatted and reformatted to not avail. I've tried the other USB port, no change. It works just fine on two other computers but not this one. I tried another flash drive and encountered the same problem but I've not had this problem before now. Any suggestions would be great appreciated.

What format is it in now?
Download this HP Formatting Tool:
http://files.filefront.com/SP27608exe/;9868201;/fileinfo.html
It the current format is FAT, format it to FAT32
If the current format is FAT32, format it to FAT
Then try and copy files to it.
Also, what version of Windows is this?
-
I'm uing Windows XP. Right now it's FAT32. I tried both, no change. I don't know that much about computers... but i'm thinking it's a software problem, not a problem with the flash drive because i'm having the same problem with a flash drive i've used on this computer before and never had this problem.

Can you try another computer?
-
I tried using it on two other computers... it works just fine on the other two.

Strange.......
So no Flash Drives work on that computer?
Exactly what are the symptoms?

Try copying other files. Perhaps the files you are copying are corrupt or something.
-
Cannot create or replace (file name): cannot find the specified file."
This error message is not the fault of the flash drive....those files have issues.
-
it's not the files... and it's not the flash drives. i don't even have to be transferring files for the computer to "lose" it's recognition of the drive... and it does that same thing regardless of the flash drive i have plugged in. it's something else... and I'm just looking for someone that might know what that something else is.
-
So no flash drives work on the computer?
-
no. i thought i already went over this... it does it regardless of the flash drive and regardless of the files... it's a problem with the computer... i'm just trying to figure out what that problem is.

I'm not sure, but you may want to consider looking here in case it's malware related:

Post the three logs here (or at least the HijackThis) and one of our Malware Specialists can determine the case.
