Hey, yes this is the one unfortunately. Whenever i load up my computer i get the blue screen come up now saying 'Unmountable_boot_volume', and i can't bypass this even restarting or in safe mode.
I also user Cntrl+F9 to go to Norton Ghost recover however it can find none of my recovery points :-\
I also clicked to restore computer to original dell configuration point but i get the message: 'Unable to locate a factory recovery point on this computer'
The computer came with no Windows cd as it said that it was all safely stored on the computer, does anyone know how to fix this and get my computer working again please.

If you can get a copy of recovery console somewhere you can boot from that:
Choose partition 1 when it asks which one
And type in any Admin password if there is one (just press enter if not)
....and run chkdisk /r - (this runs check disk with repair errors function).
There may also be the unfortunate circumstance that your hard drive is damaged and the section it is trying to boot from is corrupt.

You may have a failed or failing hard drive. If it has data that you want/need, I would remove it from the system and attempt to recover data. You can do this by adding the drive to another system. (If you need instructions, post back.)
After you recover your data, download and run the drive manufacturer's diagnostic software.

I'm not really that bothered above the data to be honest i have most of what i want backed up already, but where can i get the drive manufacturer's diagnostic software from? My computer came with no disks at all as it was all contained within the computer it said...
WindowsMedia Center if it helps...

You need to determine the manufacturer of your hard drive. Since you are unable to boot, open the case and look at the hard drive, if you are comfortable doing so. The hard drive will have the manufacturer on it.
Then go to the drive manufacturer's website and download the diagnostic software, and follow their instructions.

I have downloaded the diagnostic software but i cant actually use it unless i'm on my own computer, which is impossible as i can't get past the blue screen :(
Any other ideas or places where i can find disks to re-install my computer to its original settings? Northon Ghost still can't find any factory recovery points...

Did you create a boot disk for the drive utility and the system won't boot from it?
Can you borrow an original XP disk and try to boot from it? If successful, post back.
Remember, to boot from a CD you will most likely need to change the boot order in the BIOS or by pressing an "intercept" key early in the boot process.

The drive diagnostics do not run under Windows so not booting does not prevent them from running...
The utility is used to create a bootable CD...
The instructions will be on the same site as the utilities...

This is what a lot of computer retailers say. What I'd like to ask them is what happens if, say- the hard drive fails or becomes corrupt?
They're just trying to save money by screwing people out of the Windows CD they are entitled to when purchasing the PC. They insist it's "stored safely on the computer".
Not counting, of course, Hard drive failure or any number of other problems- one of which you've encountered here.
Trust me, their is nothing worse then having to reinstall an Operating System, only to not have the Operating System media.

There are three main reasons for the Unmountable_boot_volume error: 1) Bad/wrong cable for the hard drive, 2) corrupted files, 3) failing or failed hard drive.
We've been proceeding as if 1) is not the cause because you didn't mention any physical changes to the computer and you don't seem comfortable with going inside the computer case.
#2) Could be the problem. What operating system does the computer have? Can you get a Windows disk for your operating system - borrow one?

I have Windows Media Center operating system.
The manufacturer of my hard drive isn't clearly visible anywhere on my harddrive so i can't actually determine what the manufacturer is...

Can you borrow or otherwise obtain an original copy of Windows Media Center operating system?
Additionally, I would call Dell and tell them that there is no recovery partition accessible on your hard drive (per your original post) and see what their solution is.

And no i can't obtain Windows Media Center though i do have a Gateway Windows Vista operating disk which came with my sisters laptop?

I've managed to 'download' Windows Media Center operating system, and burnt both disks onto my own disks, now how can i make it so that my computer when i boot it up boots from the disks i've created? Thanks

I managed to fix it myself :D
I found a copy of Media Center and burned it onto a disk, and then changed the setup to put from Disk and then partitioned my hard-drive following guides on the internet and installed Media Center onto the computer and now everything works fine :D
