Title: Please Help ASAP...
Post by: phenomenon on September 08, 2008, 12:14:33 PM
I was online with my computer last night and dropped my mouse off my desk... all of the sudden my computer turned off and my mouse stopped working (light went off).  When I try to turn on my computer now, it beeps 3 times and nothing happens after that... the monitor isn't registering anything.. but has power.

Any ideas what can be wrong or how to fix it?

Follow the cable to the mouse back behine your computer and check to be sure it is plugged all the way in. Also check to be sure your key board is plugged all the way in and than try to boot your computer.

Not knowing what BIOS you have 3 beeps normally means memory. This doesnt make sence in a way , just dropping a mouse shouldnt cause this kind of pblm. Was you mouse hooked up to a usb port?Clear cmos for starters.

Yeah, it was really odd.  Though my computer has been having a few minor issues, but nothing like that.  It was just out of the blue.

The mouse and keyboard are both hooked into the computer.  The keyboard lights are on, the mouse isn't.  The mouse is through USB and the keyboard is through (whatever its called.. the circle port).  My monitor power is on and plugged up as well, just nothing is getting it from the cpu.  The power comes on for the CPU and the cdrom drive opens and closes.. its just not booting/showing anything.

you have another mouse you can swap out with?

The mouse may have been damaged when it fell

Like i said clear your c mos. If you do not know how [remove the battery and leave out for appx 20min. Make sure the power is dis connected. If you have the mother board booklet it will show you how to clear cmos?

since the mouse is connected to the ps/2 plug, it could have pulled the motherboard out of place; i did the same thing with my keyboard and it pulled the motherboard from one of the the power supplies, but it was a very old computer.
