Title: Disk Boot Error Windows XP
Post by: krystalOrchid on September 13, 2008, 04:18:58 AM
Hi there

I keep getting a blank screen (black). Nothing shows :'(
The moniter works fine on another computer ;D

Also I get a beep noise. Sounds like one long and 2 short beeps :'(

I am trying to find out if anything is not in it's correct place, as I had another  "Computer savvy" person look at it, but I got the feeling they know very little :-X

NAME: HP Compaq Presario SR1520
MEMORY:  512MB PC3200 DDR
HARD DRIVE:  80GB - 7200 RPM Serail ATA
GRAHPICS: Intergrated  ATI Radeon Xpress 200  (128MB) Shared Video memory
OPTICAL STORAGE: Double layer (8.5GB) 16xDVD-ROM
SP 2

Anyone know of any sites that may have a picture of where the cords/plug should be plugged into ???
I know that some of the cables where unplugged and don't know if they were put back in the right place ???

Any help appreciated  :-*

Welcome to ComputerHope.

According to this (http://www.computerhope.com/beep.htm), you have a Video Card issue.
Unplug the computer, ground yourself, and head into the computer.
Unplug, and then replug the video card and try to boot the computer.

Oh, I understand this now. (yellow made it hard to read)

So you can see cables unplugged. Can you find out what they are attached to and what they look like?

Your hard drive is unplugged. It should be under your CD drive(s). Make sure you ground yourself before touching any internal components.

Keep in mind your HDD's will have 2 cable connections...one for power, one for data.

I have just one Hard drive. This has not been altered since leaving the store. I went to the HP site and tried to see a picture of the inside of this model and also went to the manual for this model as suggested.

http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c00311113.pdf

I note I only have two connections in the Optical Drive Cables
rather then the three I see in the manual. I don't have the smaller (c)

Section B is empty.

I am sure I have everything connected in the right place.

I know that F1 was pressed and they did something in there?

May need to download a boot disk perhaps?
