Post by: tootnfresh on September 19, 2008, 08:57:14 PM
k so i'm running windows xp and have a msi k9n4 ultra mobo with a amd athlon x2 5200+ that i just put in it...that's when the problems started.  i had a 350 watt power supply and a geforce 6200 video card with 128mb of mem.  i used to run a amd athlon 3200 or something.   i looked up the motherboard first and found out the highest processor i could run in it being the dual core i put it.  upon putting the new processor in i loaded into world of warcraft and everything was running smooth until plow!! the whole thing shut down on me...i was like *censored* mate?! i took it in thinking it'd be the power supply and got a 500watt put in and while i was at it got a msi nx8400gs intalled as well....got it back they said no problems loaded in wow plow!! same thing!!! dah i'm getting vexed heh....i need help diagnosing what to do next.  I had an old version of bios on there...it said k9n4 ultra some numbers then v. 1.10 so i upgraded the bios by flashing the drive. now i have version 1.8 and ran it again and it still crashed....bleh i really don't wanna take it in cuz i've already spent 300 plus dollars on it and don't have cash for a bit cuz my car jsut broke down lol...what else can i do? any replies and ideas would help ty. oh and another thing as soon as the comp shut off i'd restart and go straight to bios setup and check my temps mobo was fine processor was cookin at 120C!! ahh that is way too hot...so are we thinkin new tower? not yet is ther something else i can do to cool this puppy down is it my o/s or sigh i dunno i'm just confused and irritated.

i wanna play warhammer and i can't qq

You won't get far with 128M of RAM...
Where are you getting the system temps from ? ?
Did you remember to use thermal paste when assembling this ?
Is this your first time ?

Maybe, it's video card memory?

Still, that's not a lot, these days, for video RAM.

Does the computer work all right in other applications?  Is it only when you try to game that you have trouble?

well since then i had the local computer place put in a new 500watt power supply and got a new geforce 8400 gs with 512mb or memory.  computer still runs fine and now my bios is updated with version 1.8 the highest one that is out there i did using the msi site and using the live update feature. there are more updates that i can get on to my mobo but i dunno what else to do besides take it in.  it's only when i game yes or anything that uses the processor.  even sim city societies shuts it down. it takes world of warcraft or warhammer like 5 minutes to shut it down maybe less sometimes.

Difficult to diagnose after the fact.  So many different things were done that it's hard to point to one or two specifics to say, "There's the problem."
