For the month of October we thought it would be interesting to see if you've got a computer webcam. Feel free to comment or talk about what brand of webcam you have, what you like / don't like about it, how often you use it, etc.
All past monthly polls and results can also be found on the Computer Hope poll page (http://www.computerhope.com/polls.htm).

I use an early Logitech - the larger ''ball'' deal with silver drop down lens cover. Only gets used for occasional MSN hook ups.
I got a later version to use on my Lenovo backup (smaller silvery-blue ''ball'') but that, tho functional, seemed to install way too much garbage such that when I wanted to work on video's and particularly with capture - things were screwed.
Uninstalled that one.
-
I don't :)
-
i do but its not the best.
-
I do but I don't use it very often. Only when chatting with good friends. :)

I do, but it's an external webcam and almost never plugged into the computer....but since I do, I'll say yes.

I have a question about webcam, can a person take your screen shots while you are using the webcam?

They can, if they use printscreen.

I know how we take screen shots but I was thinking if it worked on webcam window!

Yes it works. When they use printscreen, they can copy the screenshot to paint (or something else), cut out everything unused and save the webcam window as a paint file.

Oh!! Thats bad news :(

Why? Are you afraid that people might take screenshots of you without your permission? That can be avoided. When you turn on your webcam, you can choose in which conversation you want to use it. It's not needed to use it in every conversation. So when people ask you to turn on your webcam, a simple ''no'' should do just fine.

Nothing , I was just curious :)

That's okay. I thought that would be the reason you asked us.

p.s.: I thought you hated those d*mn smiley's?

There is software (even a microsoft powertool) that takes a picture from your webcam ever ## seconds and saves the picture.
This doesn't take a picture of the entire screen, but what is shown in the webcam, even if you think it's off.

does the one on my Eee PC count? (But i don't even know how to turn it on or something)

Yeah, nice little thing it is.
I know you installed XP onto it. Have you installed any drivers at all?
-
I don't have a webcam.
Well, I do, on my unused laptop, but the drivers cause BSODs when installed, so I don't actually have one.
-
I have a webcam * name escapes me *. I don't use it that often... ;D
-
My digital camera is my web cam, dont use it that often though.

When my neice and her children(whom my daughter is very close to) moved to another state, I purchased a webcam. My daughter used it about a week or two then started feeling like she was being watched, so she unplugged it. We moved this last Feb. and it is still in a box somewhere. This is a person that loves IMs, texting, taking pictures of herself and posting them, but she was afraid when she was unaware, someone may see her.

Yes.

Yes.
Yes to what, I wonder?

You know, it is ok to have it plugged in when you're using it, and unplugged when you're not. You don't have to hide it. :P
;)

-
I have a webcam, but, its external, and a bit old... not the greatest, and a fairly grainy picture.
I don't use it very often though, there's really no need.
-
don't have one... but would like to have one... :) think I could some good stuffs with it.
But first... I think I should get my own computer first... :)
-
Yes, I have one. The brand is Zonet. It's a simple, external model. I don't use it much and don't have much need for it; it's basically a toy to play with sometimes. I've used it with instant messaging and with Windows NetMeeting a few times. I got it to use with my Win XP desktop. It will not work with my notebook PC with Windows Vista; Zonet has not issued a driver to support Vista.
-
I'm mostly at work and unable to use a cam there. I currently don't have a system at home and will be purchasing one soon, so when I do finally get up with the times (haha).... I just might purchase a cam to communicate with friends and relatives who currently have one. :)
-
I just used my webcam a few minutes ago to see what the bump on the back of my head was...
(It was a pimple)
See, valid use!
-
hahahahahahahhaha

-
i have a webcam, i use it quite often, me and a few friends like to talk on them lol, my webcam has a built in mic, makes it fun on fps games :D
-
My desktop has a Philips SPC200. My laptop has a built in cam. I rarely use either. The desktop one is just for video calls to my family back in the USA.
-
I have never owned one of these webcam thingys.
-
I don't have any web com as of now. Intend to buy one probably within a week or so. It's difficult you know that without a web camp you won't be able to see who it is that you are chatting.

Well, I believe you could see them if they have a webcam and have it active in their IM software, but, of course, they won't be able to see you unless you have a webcam at your end.

I had a fairly nice HP at one time. I've have had a few over the years. I just used this one to take pictures of my guitars and to photo the odd things I sell on ebay. My computer is in my bedroom-at the foot of mine and my wife's bed. I woke up one night, decided to surf and found someone was logged into my camera!
That was creepy!
Anyway, THAT ended my love affair with web cams for the time being. I never told my wife about it. She'd freak. Not that I had an opportunity to perform any lewd acts in front of said cam!!! HARDY HAR :-\

Interesting and well done post tonesage. So I've heard about this type of thing happening but always assumed it was mostly rumor. Out of curiosity how did you determine that someone logged into your computers camera? Is it possible that your wife just left it going?
-
I have a built-in iSight camera on my MacBook and my iMac ...
-
I have a rather old Logitech QuickCam. I would have it on my main computer, but I can't find 64-bit drivers for the life of me. It is on my web server being a very basic webcam that updates a .jpg every 5 seconds.
-
Creative 2MP USB Web Cam ;D
but its slow on the capture since the software with it has way to many features, much more than i need. since i only need the basic drivers and capture software for web chat.
-
I use a fairly recent Creative Labs Cam. Works good, is able to follow the face.
Since I communicate with lots of family and friends back in the USA it is good to be able to see their faces (especially when they laugh).
I use it often.

Knowing if thats a real "lol" or not, what fun

I tried to use my digital video camera because I read that a camera would have better optics, but I never could get it to work. So no I don't use a webcam.
-
i have a web cam but i didn't use it. :D
-
Yes I do have it but i don't use it often ! Neither my internet speed is high enough nor its resolution is too high ;D 8)
-
Have a Logi Tech quick cam Ultra vision. Excellent camera with good supporting software
-
No ive never had one
never had the need for one.
-
I have a 2 MegaPixel Webcam in my laptop, but I've only used it 3-4 times in 1 year. The internet connection is just too slow and the video quality is horrible. I'll wait a few years till I actually chat again with this worthly cam.
