Title: sound problems
Post by: ajr67 on October 17, 2008, 06:50:15 AM
hi all.please excuse my ignorance as i am not a leading computer expert!i have windows XP and have recently upgraded my IE6 to IE7.have been using firefox for a while now but needed IE7 to view some sport.my problem is that whilst i can still here my music on itunes, i cannot here anything else.if i try to listen to a song on youtube e.g i just here a white noise/slight crackling coming through speakers.i have searched everywhere to get a solution but none have worked.a friend recommended you gave me your address.if anyone can help it would be appreciated.

there is no sound at all coming from the computer i.e pop up noises or anything.

Have you check Volume Control? (double click the speaker icon near the clock)
Make sure everything is up and not muted.

You mentioned that you could hear music on itunes. Can you still hear it?

yes as normal.all volume control buttons i know of are on.i have also checked device manager, everything working as normal.you can hear a slight fuzz?! when you try to play a piece of music but as i say all the normal sounds you are meant to hear like games etc dont happen.

Let's clarify.
No sound in IE. Do you have sound in FF?
No Windows sounds, but there is a sound from iTunes, right?
Can you play music CD?

Download  no_sound_in_browsers.reg (http://z2.invisionfree.com/ComputerHelp/index.php?act=Attach&type=post&id=4141692) file to your desktop.
Double click on it, and allow registry merge.
Restart computer.

You're not allowed to give in...
Have you tried different speakers ?
Do Windows notification sounds work ?
Do you have a link to this site where you have no sound ?

I suggested Un-installing iTunes to see if it was part of the problem here...

Are you sure the registry merge file Broni sent was done properly ? ?

unless i have mucked up,which there is a good possibility, there is no "merge"to go to.

Strange....

So you download this to desktop:
http://z2.invisionfree.com/ComputerHelp/index.php?act=Attach&type=post&id=4141692

Right Click the .reg file on the desktop and go to Merge.

If there is no Merge, Right Click and go to Properties and can you tell us what it is?

I agree with Broni.

So you've successfully merged the registry file and restarted, still no sound?
