try to download and it will run but the file does not show up
??
Why do you have IE8 installed? It's still in beta. Is it your main computer?
-
Main computer
Have IE8 to see if it worked any better than 7. Use Firefox for everything with access allowed IE8'
Thanks
-
Beta programs shouldn't be installed on main machine, or problems may arise.
You didn't answer my other question. The explanation of your problem is very unclear to me.
-
Am deleting IE8.
I receive an email with an attachment such as pdf. I click to download the attachment, it runs but the attachment never shows up. I check in downloads etc and there is nothing. When I download a video it will play on all the players I have, but only the audio plays not the video.
-
What email program is it?
What players do you use to play videos? Where are you getting those videos from?
-
I have excite.com, hot mail.com,yahoo.com and outlook express.
I use Windows media, winamp, real player and i tunes
The videos I get are from friends. I can go to youtube and the video works on it but its just when I get an attachment it doesn't play video just sound. I have tried all the players.
-
Little bit confusing. How can you play any video attachment, since you're saying, you can't save any attachment?
-
I can download the video attachment, but it won't play video, just the audio portion. I cannot download .xls,.pdf or similar formats
-
Try VLC Player: http://www.videolan.org/vlc/ for videos.
-
Downloaded and I still only get sound.
-
Go Start>Run ("Start Search" in Vista), type in:
sfc /scannow
Click OK (hit Enter in Vista).
Have Windows CD/DVD handy.
If System File Checker (sfc) will find any errors, it'll ask you for the CD.
If sfc won't find any errors in Windows XP, it'll simply quit, without any message.
In Vista you will receive the following message: "Windows resource protection did not find any integrity violations".
-
Its asking for a windows xp professional CD,but I only have the XP Home and the OS that came with the computer, Media 2004
-
Just received a JPG file and clicked to open and it stated download file I clicked yes and it disappeared.
-
How did you installed Pro on your computer, then?
-
Never did. The only installation was when I purchased the computer and it came with the OS disc which states is it a a XP Media 2004.
-
Clicking on the windows tab it states I have a Windows Media Edition
-
Tell me what EXACTLY that Windows CD you have, reads.
-
Windows XP Home Edition and the OS disc that came with the computer Windows media Edition 2004
-
Run sfc /scannow, as described in my reply #11, and put Windows Media CD, when it asks for a disk.
-
Did it and it stated wrong disc need Pro XP
-
Then XP Pro is installed on that machine......somewhere.
This may also have been caused by attempting to fix Media Center with an XP CD...
-
Did search and there is no XP Pro on machine. In pulling up the OS it indicates Windows Media 03 The OS disc which came with the computer indicates Windows XP Media Center 2004 In running the fsc scan now it indicate this OS disc is the wrong CD It is looking for windows XP Pro
-
Well i did some more checking and apparently in some cases an XP CD will run both SFC and the Recovery Console on Windows Media Center.
You will need an XP Pro ( not home ) CD with Service Packs that match what you have installed.
Again sometimes this has worked sometimes not...
-
I don't believe it was installed ,if so it must have been done at the factory. When I pull up the OS listed on this computer it is 2003 Windows Media. When I use the fsc it states Windows Pro. I have all of the Windows media software so I don't know how the Run sequence with Sfc is reading XP Pro
-
Go Start>Run, type in:
winver
Click OK.
What does it say?
-
Windows XP Media Center Edition Copyright 1985-2002 Version 5.1 Build 2600 xpsp.sp3
-
Please insert the Compact Disc labeled 'Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2 CD
Is this the question, your computer asks?
-
Indicates wrong disc please insert windows XP Pro
-
No, my question is, if the Service Pack 2 is mentioned?
-
...or any Service Pack for that matter?
-
DOESN'T SPECIFY A SERVICE PACK
-
I think, there is something wrong with that CD.
I wonder, if you can boot with it.
-
Advised windows on computer is newer version than on CD
-
For some reason the SFC is running with the OS disc in.
-
I think, your problem is, that you have SP3 installed on your computer. You're receiving message "windows on computer is newer version than on CD", because CD doesn't have that SP on it.
Unfortunately, it's impossible to slipstream SP3 into Media Center Edition CD, so I'm not sure what to do at this point.
-
For some reason the SFC is running with the OS disc in.
Let's see, if it'll accept that CD, if any changes are needed.
-
Ran thru and accepted cd. No problems. Still can't download attachments
-
I really appreciate the time you have spent on this matter
-
You're welcome, but I'm not satisfied.
One more try. Install Thunderbird, and see, if same problem exist.
What AV are you using?
-
Am having some success with my Outlook Express. I can download xls and PDF files. Still having problem with the video clips. Will try Thunderbird
-
Downloaded Thunderbird and like Outlook Express I can download the attachments but still can't get the video on the vid clips, just audio
-
Are you saving the email attachment as a file to your hard drive before trying to run it?
If not then give that a try.
-
Saved the attachment to desktop and hard drive despite this I can still only get audio no matter what player I use.
-
I'm glad about some progress.
Two more questions...
1. Can you play regular (not from attachments) video, like video DVD, on your computer?
2. Is this a problem with just one attached video, or more of them? Same sender?
Upload one of those videos here: http://www.uploadbigfiles.net/, and post download link.
-
This is a youtube ad for DanierLeather. I can go to you tube and watch it there but can't get the video portion of the upload to play from my email attachment
Sent upload
-
This is upload link
http://www.uploadbigfiles.net/download.php?file=915GirlInABar.wmv
-
It plays fine here, but you didn't answer all my questions.
Can you play regular video, like video DVD, not video on the internet?
Is the above video, the only video, which doesn't play?
If more, than one, all from one sender?
The video, you uploaded...is this the very same video, which you received as an attachment, and it doesn't play on your computer?
-
I can play dvds and CD. I am only having trouble with the video I receive by email. Any source I receive it from, I can only get audio not video.
It is the same one I received and won't show audio on my computer.
If I get a you tube video I can go to you tube and watch it. Its just when I receive it as an attachment and have to download it that I can't view the video.
-
This is very interesting issue.
Did you notice, if all those attached videos are in .wmv format?
-
Yes
I also notice when I take a pic with my vid cam and try to view it,it loads thru Nero and it won't complete the download. It is a jpg file and nero states it can't download it
-
VLC has all codecs included, so it should play any video, but....get K-Lite Codec Pack Standard: http://www.free-codecs.com/download/K_Lite_Codec_Pack.htm
Restart computer, and try to play the video in WMP, and VLC.
-
I'll give it a shot
