Title: Stuck at login screen

I have been working on a friend of a friends pc all day mainly because they have some pictures on the hard drive and don't want to loose them.

It's a dell deminsion 3000 xp home and I am at the point when I start it up I get F2 set up or F12 then I have to click on f1 to continue. I have tried all options of logging in safe mode, last known, etc.

It will get to the login screen in about five minutes and no further from there. That is it. Any suggestions  or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

I am going to try this even though I have tried it twice with pro, I am going to try home as this article suggest.

It is still running and that is 12 hours later. ::)

and it is still loading windows. It acts like it has no power, could it possibly be the battery of course I have never had that problem and don't know how it effects the pc.

Thanks for link, when this one completes I'll check it out. I think this pc has a major problem somewhere, hard drive?<..........
