Not sure where to go here. Computer was working fine Friday, partially my fault for not keeping spyware up to date I think but not sure. Wife was on it today, says it was working fine one minute then lost internet connection. I messed with it some on her login and didn't get anywhere, tried my login and had internet for a few minutes then it went away. I have my laptop to access internet but will have to get her computer working. here is the hijackthis log file. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Interesting.... someone just asked a very similar question.... now copy/pasting the same post...
Click Start> Run (Or hold down the Windows Key on your keyboard and press R)
And type:
CMD
Vista:
Press the Start button on your keyboard, type Cmd
Right click CMD and click "Run With Administrator Privileges"
Type the following:
ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew
Second step:
If that didnt work, find the Wireless icon on the system tray (next to the time on your start menu bar) and right click it. Click "Diagnose and Repair"
(There may be more than one Wireless icon in your system tray)
If you are no longer using AOL, you might want to uninstall it, and also delete the following from HTJ:

Thanks for the quick reply. Tried but it didn't work. I get a message that says:
Windows could not finish repairing the problem because the following action cannot be completed:
Renewing your IP Address
For assistance, contact the person who manages your network.
Unfortunately that would be me. Nothing has been changed on the network. I tried a new wireless adaptor but still have the same issues.
Other ideas?

I would like you to reset the wireless router by looking in the manual for a way or to look on the router for a very small button usually located in the back where the power and Lan cables plug in or underneath maybe. If you have Wep settings active make sure the key is inputted in the router exactly the same as the computer. After you complete these steps try to repair the connection again on the computer or restart it.
I hope you have learned how to access the router settings and you may have to hook up wired 1st to access the router and to iron out connection problems/settings before you try to go wireless.

another piece of the puzzle. everything was working fine until wife visited mpix.com trying to use them for photo printing. When she went to upload it asked to run an application "com.aurigma.imageuploader.uploader" Lost connection after hitting ok and cannot get it back. I did a search on this sight for aurigma and it hit on my posting it is listed in my hijackthis log in 016-DPF.
Any additional ideas?

May I ask you what fixed the problem initially? have you tried going wired to the router since the last disconnect with the uploaded ordeal? If so does it connect to the internet that way or is it just a wireless issue?

Never have really "fixed' the problem. The first time I logged in under my login on that computer I had connection for a minute or two but it went away. Almost like it was there until something loaded. Now it just comes up with "cannot renew IP address"
Tried resetting router with no results.
I have 2 desktops, 2 laptops, an Iphone, and a Wii all getting IP addresses but this computer is having problems.
I have checked the router and have enough clients available for this computer to be logged in also.
The WEP is correct.
I installed the wireless adaptor that is connected to the Wii and had the same problems I was having so I switched back to the old one.
I have not tried going wired. I'll try to find a network cable long enough get there.
Have tried:
ipconfig /flushdns
ipconfig /registerdns
ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew
Restart computer.... Nothing
And also tried WinSockFix....Still no IP Renew.
Also tried shutting down all virus software, Windows firewall, and spyware software to see if it would get an address... nothing.
For good measure no response when I ping the router.

I know that various drivers/versions are supplied from the manufacturers for wireless devices and routers updates are also available and they all very in what they get done.
I know some wireless router updates are for connecting to game consoles since I had that issue myself with xbox and a wireless card adapter for a laptop.
I had to try all kinds of different combination of drivers and router updates before it was all settled.
I retired my Linksys and I just bought a new wireless router from Netgear for $40 and it has not caused a problem at all. True plug and play...what a relief.

Thing is nothing was changed here and it quit working. It has worked for 4 years or more. The only thing that has changed is my wife downloaded something or something in the computer quit working. The wireless adaptor isn't likely the culprit since I have tried another adaptor that is working where it is and it computer still doesn't connect. Maybe I'm being dense but I don't see where your last response applies here. I'm not trying to be nasty I know you are trying to assist but I'm getting frustrated with this.

Try doing a system restore prior to the date the problem started.

I fully understand your frustration, the info I gave was FYI.
it seems something in windows has interfered with the wireless operation. Programs can do that like you stated when they are installed even if they are not related to wireless systems. I would try an uninstall of the program(s) and see if its the problem, but it still may not correct what it has done if it is the culprit, but you may correct it that way.
I also recommend deleting the wireless driver and reinstalling the latest from the manufacture wholeheartedly. I also recommend doing virus and spyware scans in safe mode just for good measure.
as the other user here has stated a roll back also has a good chance of fixing it but of course a roll back will delete everything on the computer back to the date you choose to roll to.
the most extream action is to save wanted personal files off the drive and format and load windows fresh...I recommend that once a year anyways, but its a personal choice.

Ok something a little different to report. Apparently the connection comes and goes. Sitting there today just watching the computer the connection popped up saying signal strength strong and connected. Connection only lasts about a minute then it goes away. The signal then show low strength and limited to no connectivity. My laptop in the same room shows very good signal while the the desktop shows low.

maybe there is a EMF field or its just a bad area for reception for some reason unknown.
be sure power cords are not next to things like usb cables and wireless units for good measure. Also make sure wireless units are not near speakers, monitors, tv's or anything electronic that can interfere.
In your wireless discovery list of networks be sure only your network is showing as usable and is set to default/connect to 1st.
when I add a network to my connection list it allows me to delete it if needed so the wireless system doesn't try to connect to another network nearby.
I have also found that if you change the name of your wireless network for some reason that helps to make it less confusable with other networks, the only issue with that is you have to rediscover the network on every computer that uses the wireless connection.
Be sure to look in network properties on the computer and make sure a network bridge is not in place.
I will guess you have already deleted the wireless network on the wireless discovery software or with windows depending which one you use and then rediscover it and configure it. if not try that.

Well I unhooked the computer and moved it with the wireless adaptor to my sons room. Signal is now excellent, it connects and works fine.
So what caused the change in reception in my living room. It has been there for 6 to 8 years now on the wireless.
Is my router dying?
Should I get a repeater and put it in the system to get a stronger signal in the living room. This might also help me in my detached shop connect with my laptop anyhow.
Thanks for the help this last week. I just don't understand what causes things to change in the middle of the game.

Is it possible for you to change the channel that the router broadcasts on? It should be in the Wireless setup of your router. Try a few different ones, if there is a router nearby that is on the same channel or other wireless devices like Phones near they may cause interference.

was on 6 forever. Tried 7, 8, &10 earlier today. No results
Also had read some post on the web about people having problems after installing XP SP3 so I removed it with no luck either.
Anybody have experience with hi gain antennas? A repeater doesn't appear to be the way to go from what I can read.

I feel a solution is to buy a new high end wireless router with improved signal capabilities. You can always return it if you felt it didnt solve the problem.
I will bet that will fix it ..trust me

Belkin routers dont work very well at all for wireless functions. Look into Netgear or Linksys.
Costco usually has good router sales, however, sometimes they only sell gaming grade routers, which are very expensive. If you happen to have a Costco card, take a look.

What are you using to connect wirelessly? The default XP program or software that came with the router?

Linksys router all wireless adaptors that I have added to computers are Linksys as well. . Again it is 6 to 8 years old so may be just be going away. I use the XP softare to connect. I tried the software that came with my wireless adaptor after this issue started. It didn't work either. No Costco here but may look at Sam's. Linksys still a good choice?

Being as I have worked with more Netgear routers, I prefer them, however, Linksys is the next thing on the list.

Linksys is the one I would avoid, its what gave me problems and I went to Netgear and it has worked perfect so far.
I also had a linksis notebook card that gave me *censored* and I bought netgear to replace it and also has worked without any problems.

got a new Netgear router going today. Everything working correctly again. Guess the old Linksys was just getting weak. Thanks for the help guys.
