Title: 120 GB iPod - Windows Write Failure
Post by: kris_1013 on November 17, 2008, 12:33:32 AM
I bought a 120 gb iPod about 3 weeks ago and have had nothing but problems.  Every times I try to sync it, it says -

Delayed Write Failed
Windows was unable to save all the data for the file x. The data has been lost. This error may be caused by a failure of your computer hardware or network connection. Please try to save this file elsewhere.

I have had a 30 gb iPod for years and this NEVER happened.

I have restored it 20 times
I have tried it in other USB ports
I have tried other iPod USB cords
I have defraged the HD
I have tried to restore the computer
I have tried uninstalled the driver
I have reinstalled the driver
I have opened iTunes first, the the iPod
I have checked the antivirus and the firewall

I have uninstalled the driver and reinstalled it and it worked for a week or so, but now it won't sync again.

Some say it could be the HD, but I have been able to burn DVDs, use flash drives, and SD slots, and they did not show a write error.

I have tried to sync it with another computer and it works.  I have used it in my car, home stereo, and personal use, and it works.  So, I don't think it is the iPod.  ??

I have Windows XP - Service Pack 3, and I connect to the USB slot on the computer.

PLEASE HELP!   :'(

Honestly, you've done about as much troubleshooting as is needed for this situation.

What I would do:

Go to your local apple store.  Since it's a new iPod it's under warranty and they will fix any issues for free (assuming the ipod wasn't dropped and dented or something like that).

If you go to apple.com/retail and then look up your local store you can actually sign up for the appointment before you go (it's called the "Genius Bar").

If your computer is a laptop I highly recommend bringing that in as well.  Tell them exactly what you said here (what you've tried, what the symptoms are) and they'll be able to find the issue for you.
