Title: Help! Trying to Re-registering vbscript.dll and jscript.dll
Post by: xSmootx on November 19, 2008, 09:44:17 AM
Heya, I'm still having this problem. I'm on a Compaq Presario, Windows XP computer and I'm trying to reregister these two .dll files for the other people who use this computer.

They're both working on my user but when I try register them on the other user and on the admin account in safe mode a "registering failed" message comes up.

I've done the things listed here: http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=831430

The only thing that I see stand out is that on this user I don't have the first registry key as listed in that link. Any help as to remedy the problem or entering that first registry key would be much appreciated.

And no, I don't have the Windows XP disc.

Some programs like Windows media player and the search dialog box aren't working properly (WMP not loading at all, search dialog is blank). The system restore is functional in case I do have to roll the system back.

I REALLY need help with this, I'm starting to freak out over it and I'm trying to be as calm as I could be about it.

Why don't you try System Restore?

Tried that before and it didn't work.

Go Start>Run ("Start Search" in Vista), type in:
sfc /scannow
Click OK (hit Enter in Vista).
Have Windows CD/DVD handy.
If System File Checker (sfc) will find any errors, it'll ask you for the CD.
If sfc won't find any errors in Windows XP, it'll simply quit, without any message.

Everyone needs one, sooner, or later.
You may borrow one to run sfc.
Must be same XP version, though.

Well sfc works but takes awhile. I guess I should run this on one of the users in safe mode?

It doesn't matter what mode, or what user. It checks for system files, which don't depend on user, or mode.

Got done scanning, didn't find anything.

It doesn't show anything whether it finds or repairs anything or not...
Did you re-boot afterwards ?

Nope, but now my display adapter is having trouble. I restarted up today and the computer is now working with a [default monitor] in the properties settings instead of the ATI Radeon Xpress 200 series.

Oh and it didn't help the .dll situation.

so it now simply says [blank] on (Default Monitor)?

No, in the properties window under the settings tab, it says

Display:
(Default Monitor) on

Instead of the ATI Radeon Xpress 200 Series.

I tried to reinstall it but it appears to not show up in the add new hardware menu. HELP!!!

I was trying to get to device manager menu and I thought you could do it through the add new hardware dialog but apparently not, so I accessed it through the help and support program. What has the ! next to it is something that I found off of nodevice.com, scanned it to make sure that it has no viruses, and I'm hesistant on actually installing it.

Originally it said ATI Radeon Xpress 200 Series and that the problem was that it failed to start (Code 10). I tried the uninstall trick but after I uninstalled it I had no way of reinstall it.

Do you know if you have onboard video or an add-on card ? ?
If it's an add on card re-install your video driver from the Driver CD that shipped with the card...
If it's onboard video the driver will be on your MBoard Driver CD...

Download, and install Everest: http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4181.html (http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4181.html)
Open it, click Computer, then Summary.
In upper menu, go Report>Quick Report-Summary
Save it in text file, and paste it in your next post.
Don't include anything under line Debug - PCI

Ok so after I downloaded the file from nodevice.com, I did an add hardware search and the computer seem to have found hopefully the right driver, and it found the compaq monitor that I'm using. Things seem to be back in order display-wise.

The .dll problem though still exists on the two users, I'll fiddle around with that as soon as I calm down a bit and get some other stuff done. Also a little scared on restarting.

hmm
Why did you try regsvr32 is safe mode for the other users? Have you tried doing it in the other users accounts in normal mode?
