A FAT32 system will not be able to read a NTFS without, as I understand, a third party driver.

I have googled but found nothing yet

Windows 9x (that includes all 95 and 98 releases) does not support NTFS. XP supports both FAT (16 & 32) and NTFS. That is why your xp system will see all but your 98 system will only see the FAT32 stuff.

The solution is to re-do the xp installation, but this time format the partition as FAT32 first, not NTFS. You will lose all of the benefits of NTFS (Quotas, Compression etc.) but you do get the desired ability to access both partitions in both 98 and xp.

Didn't you already do this?

Let's get this straight.

1) When you start up your computer, do you get two choices on the screen: "Windows XP Professional Edition" "Windows 98" (or something like that)? Yes  No

If Yes, then I have no idea why you asked this question.  That's like asking "How do I ride a bike" while you're riding it!!!!

2) Windows 98 CANNOT READ NTFS!!!

What this means is when you boot to your Windows 98 operating system, you
CANNOT
CANNOT
CANNOT
see what's on your Windows XP partition!

Windows 98 = FAT or FAT32 partitions only.  Can't read anything else.
Windows XP = FAT, FAT32, and NTFS.  That's why XP can read your 98 stuff, but 98 can't read your XP stuff.

To fix this problem, you should have formatted your XP partition in FAT32.  That way, 98 could see your XP stuff.  NTFS is Greek to Windows 98.  It's like someone trying to speak Spanish, French, or German to you*!!!

*: unless you happen to know Spanish, French, or German, of course. :)

So, in this order:

1) Backup your data.
2) Create two FAT32 partitions.
3) Install Windows 98 first.
4) Install Windows XP second.  DO NOT convert to NTFS!
