Title: my toshiba notebook won't boot up

My son's toshiba notebook won't boot up..the page where it ask you if u want windows in safe mode, promt  mode , or start nrmally comes up.  you can move up and down to select but when u hit enter. the same page comes back on again.  please help, all his school is in the hardrive.

Is it a recent problem? Any recent hardware/software changes?

no, no recent problems nor any hardware/software chanfes. I just turn it off properly and now it has that problem...can u help? I don't want to use the restore cd because it'll delete everything. My neighbor  thinks is the motherboard...I ahve no idea,,,,,

do you have a normal windows CD from which you can run recovery console (and subsequently chkdsk)

I have the restore cd but using it will delete everything. Right?

Not the restore CD- you need an actual windows Installation CD.

Restore CD will erase everything.
