I'm trying to burn a music cd using wmp and I get a message that says there is no disc in the drive when there is a brand new, empty disc in there.
I have tried sonic record now as well as the windows cd copying utility and received the same message.
I also tried sytem restore back a month ( I cant remember the last time I used the disc drives), different discs and cleaing the dust out of the tower to no avail.
I have a cheap Dell Celeron with 512 MB of Ram, Xp OS version 2002 service pack 3. I'm not sure what else to include..
Any suggestions? I had planned to give cd's for Christmas but this will certainly put a damper on that idea.....
Thanks in advance..

From my experience, the drive is going south.

I agree with the other guy. The drive is bad. I had the same problem not to long ago.

My Computer's DVD Rom is not also able to detect any CD/DVD.
Neither it can read CD/DVD nor burn CD.
I am assuming that it's the problem of my OS or a Virus.
I don't want to format my PC this week, may be next week.
I'll surely post the result here.

Try reinstalling the device by removing it from the device manager under My Computer -> properties.
