Title: recent upgrade to vista, acer aspire 5050 keyabord not working
Post by: nefariousxxx on December 25, 2008, 06:01:25 PM
HELLO! this is my 2nd post for the day, and as promised i said if i'd encountered another problem i'd be back..

SO.. i recently acquired an acer aspire 5050 laptop that was riddled with viruses and i couldn't get it to boot in any way, its a vista capable laptop, but came with windows XP installed on it.

after fighting with the thing for 5 days, i finally managed to format the hard drive and upgrade it to windows vista home premium. after installing and coming to the first set up processes where you select english and the keyboard type, i noticed that the touchpad and keyboard are not working at all.. so i plugged in a usb mouse, and it worked, and managed to get past the username input and all that with an on screen keyboard..

SO Nooooww.. all i'm trying to figure out is how to get the keyboard and touchpad to register and work.

i checked the drivers and diagnostics of both and it says that they have the newest drivers and that they are in working order, and well. derr derr derr, no they are not.

i can not restore to previous time, i don't have a restore cd either.. just a cleaned out laptop with windows vista home premium.

any suggestions please? :)

You need the laptop MBoard drivers installed...
If you cannot find the Driver CD visit Acer's site and search via Model# and OS...

i've gone 2 the acer website numerous times, and downloaded/installed everything possible including flashing the bios...till no luck. the keyboard and touchpad worked momentarily one day after doing a few upgrades then i got a device error, restarted my comp, and the touchpad/keyboard worked until everything loaded then they were back to not working and it does this everytime reboot. im using a usb mouse and an onscreen keyboard so u can imagine how long this is taking lol. i know i could always use a usb keyboard but thats hard for me to get. any input would b greatly appreciated!! thanks!

This came from a Google search: Disabling touchpad on Acer Aspire laptop (http://forum.zensupport.co.uk/thread/31170.aspx).  I know you want to enable, not disable, but the info pertains either way.

On my Compaq notebook PC, I can disable and re-enable the touchpad by pressing a small button on the back edge of the touchpad.  I don't know whether any Acers have that feature.  When I disable the touchpad this way, the touchpad icon in the system tray has a red X over it.

NDProxy.SYS - network card driver
srv.sys - Windows Server driver
So, I don't think, they have anything to do with your keyboard problem.

I have an Acer Aspire 5515 and I am also having the same problem.  One week ago, my dog was trying to get by my feet when the power cord came unplugged.  I had taken the battery out of the laptop (because it never leaves the house), so when the cord got pulled out the computer completely shut off. Normally, if the cord came out, the laptop satyed on due to the battery.

I plugged the laptop back in and booted - everything came on - though I thought it was weird that I didn't get the "Disk Check" screen at start up like you would on a PC...you know the one that says you may have damaged drivers and the system needs to run a system check?

Once the laptop booted the keyboard and the touch pad wouldn't work.  I have looked at the device manager and I have four yellow triangles:

Generic PnP Monitor
AMD Antlon(tm) Processor 2650e
ATI I/O Communications Processor LPC Controller
UMBus Root Bus Enumerator

When I try to uninstall/scan for hardware changes it says all my drivers are up to date.  But I am also receiving a Code 37 on these same four items when I try to "check for solutions".  Vista sux!

External mouse works and I don't have an external keyboard - using the onscreen keyboard.

This freaking blows and there are little to no forums or links that supply helpful solutions to this annoying problem.

Title: [Solved] Code 37 Issues
Post by: mycatsadiva on April 08, 2011, 08:12:19 AM
I found this on another forum and it FIXED my problem, so I have got to pass it on!

Removing Code 37 from Vista

"Here is what I did, based on information that I found on the "System File Checker" (which I thought no longer existed in Vista):

From the start menu, select "All Programs" and then Select "Accessories". Find the "Command Prompt" icon and RIGHT-click it. Select "Run as Administrator." Click Okay when prompted by your system.

Then at the C prompt, type "sfc /scannow" (without the quotes - there is a space between "sfc" and "/scannow").

Just let it run and it will eventually correct all the corrupt files. When it is done, restart your computer.
When it comes back, it will look for a new driver for your sound and then ask you to reboot, after it installs it.
When windows starts, again, everything should be fine.

All my code 37 errors were now gone, and my system was back to normal."

Hope this helps someone else.

Hey man, it sure helped me!!
