Title: Can't access ext hd.
Post by: Joshuashaw on December 28, 2008, 09:42:17 AM
I've rebooted my PC back to shop standards, it's currently running Windows XP, Service Pack 2 and the system is a Dell 9100 with 1.50GBs of RAM. The external hardrive is a Maxtor Basics 500GB which is currently unaccessible the normal way you'd double a drive to look at the files contained.

When I double click on the drive in My Computer, I get the error code "resycled/boot.com is not a valid Win32 application"

SAS picked a few things on a quick scan of this drive on it's own, deleted them and removed them, then restarted the PC, I am currently runnning another scan with SAS, and MBAM is doing a full of scan of the drive as it's compulsory for it to be full to actually pick which drive you want to scan for infections. Also, AVG Anti-Virus Free is doing a full scan of the external hardrive. I am going to download Hijack this and post the log for that, and I'll post the logs for the 3 scans currently going on when there finished.

SAS picked up nothing second time round.

Hijackthis log attached.

In the meanwhile, could anyone help me out? I would be so appreciative if it's possible to get rid of my problem. Thanks in advanced.

Even if scanning two different drives, you shouldn't scan with two different programs at once.  It's bound to cause more trouble.

You should remove this entry with HijackThis...
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://bfc.myway.com/search/de_srchlft.html?p=DK

The problem most likely lies within your external hard drive.  Go ahead and give Flash Disinfector a try...

Once you have done that, I would advise going through this post...
