Title: Looking for help with printer driver
Post by: martinep on January 06, 2009, 05:14:23 PM
Hi,
Bought a new mac which I love. Had a HP laserjet printer that I wanted to keep using. Tried to install the driver, didn't work. Now somebody gave me another driver that works apparently  however, my mac won't install it since it says that I already have a driver (a newer version) installed. I want to disinstall the driver to install the one that will supposedly work. However, can find out how to disinstall the first driver. Can anybody help?
Thanks
M.

It's actually called Uninstall.

I'm not really sure with Macs, but I found this:

Don't know yet! It's on my computer at home and I'm at work. I'll try it tonight and let you know.
Thanks again.

here's what you need to do.

Go to system preferences (apple logo in top left corner --> system preferences).

Go to "Print & Fax"

You will see the printers on the left hand side.
Click on the one you want to delete so it's highlighted, then click on the "-" sign in the bottom left corner.

Just to be safe I'd also go to your applications folder (click on finder, then go to applications) and find the Hewlett-Packard folder and delete it.

Then use your installer.

BTW- a good way to know you are using the correct driver is to download it directly from HP's website.  If you go there you can choose Mac OS X as your operating system and then download the software for OS 10.5 and you'll be set.

Please let us know what your results are.
