Everytime I try to download something to the C drive it says I do not have permission. This happens when I try to download a disk also.
Thanks in advance.

Is it your computer? Post exact message. What browser, version?
What do you mean by "when I try to download a disk"?
-
When I try to download Spy Hunter and I try to save to C: drive it says I do not have permission to save to the C drive.
-
Is it your computer? Post exact message. What browser, version?
-
IE 7.0
HP SR5505F
Vista Home Premium
-
Is it your computer? Post exact message.
And if it's your computer, do you have admin privileges on that disk?
-
Yes it is my computer.
-
Yes it is my computer and I am the adminstrator.
-
For the third time:
Post exact error message.
-
Are you talking about Spy Hunter anti-malware program?
If so, did you buy it on the internet, and you downloaded it from there?
-
Sorry
C:\Program Files\calculator.msi
You don't have permission to save in this location.
Contact administrator to obtain permission.
-
yes I did buy it online.
-
Take the ownership of "Program Files" folder: http://www.winmatrix.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=13157
-
thank you.
-
Did it work?
-
I haven't used it yet. I'm not that good with such things and I don't want to pay a lot of money to fix what I might mess up. If I use this will I be the administrator of C: drive?
Thanks
-
You're, and you'll be an administrator. What happens, sometimes some registry files got corrupted, and given folder may not recognize you as an administrator. Using my link will provide you with right click command , which will force any given folder/file to accept you as the administrator.
-
I saved it and opened it and tried to save something in the Program files but it would not let me. It ask if I want to save it to in MY folder instead.
-
You saved what?
-
I'm trying to save a Social Security calculator to C:\Progam Files\calculator.msi
-
Did you get, and run the file from my link?
-
Yes. It would not let me save it to Program files. I had to save it to MY file.
-
You're doing something wrong.
At my link, you click on own.zip to download it.
Find the downloaded file on your computer.
Unzip it.
You'll get own.reg file.
Right click on own.reg, and click "Merge".
Agree to merge.
Restart computer.
Now, when you right click on any folder/file in Windows Explorer, you'll see new option: "Take Ownership".
Right click on "Program Files" folder, click "Take Ownership".
Now, you have taken ownership of "Program Files" folder.
Try to install your SS Calculator again.
-
There's nothing to zip.
-
There's nothing to zip.
I don't see what that has to do with Broni's suggestions...
-
Is it suppose to start downloading things saying I am now owner?
-
Did you read my reply #22?
-
I did everything and took ownership of Program files and it went crazy. Is that what it's suppose to do?
-
I'm not there, and I don't know, what you mean by "went crazy".
-
It was running in C:\Windows\System32 giving me ownership of everything I guess.
-
I didn't understand anything, you said.
What was running in system32?
-
When I clicked Take Ownership of Program files it started running C:\Windows\System32 making me owner of everything I guess?
-
When you right click on "Program Files" folder, then click "Take Ownership", command prompt window should pop-up with hundreds of files flying through it for a good while.
When it finally stops, you should see a long list starting with:
SUCCESS! The file <or folder> now owned by your name
-
I just oerformed very same command, and the files are still flying through cmd window. When it's done, I'll post a screenshot (time depends on number of installed programs - a lot here).
-
Thank you for all your valuable information and having patience with me. Again thank you very much.
-
This is what we're here for :)
I'll post that screen shot, when the command is done....still running.
-
Here you go...
