Title: Fatal Error
Post by: Bramley on January 24, 2009, 05:25:02 PM
Hi everyone - having a problem accessing a forum that I'm a member of.
Every time I try to go to the site, all I get is a 'fatal error' message appear:

Fatal error: Call to undefined function message_die() in /home/phpbbser/public_html/phpbb/common.php on line 207

I'm running Windows XP.
I'd be very grateful for any help!

ps - the computer is a Tiny

The software which runs on the forum website server has crashed. There is nothing wrong with your PC. All you can do is wait and keep trying.

PS. Bumping is not encouraged.

Thank you Dias, reassuring to know it isn't a problem with my PC, I was on the verge of buying one of the registry cleaners on offer! Will just have to wait it out.
Sorry about the bumping - I won't reoffend.
Thanks again,
Bramley

Never buy one of these products. They are infamous for making problems worse, in my opinion. Far better to ask on a forum like this one if you have a problem.

Maybe I should have put a smiley in my post to show it wasn't such a big sin, but the trouble with bumping your own thread is that it ups the number of replies and people browsing through the thread list see that and may think that you are being helped by somebody else.

Call to undefined function message_die()

The forum could be down for maintenance or the site could be badly coded or not set up properly.

I appreciate the reasoning behind the 'no bumping' policy, I don't approve of it on any forum, I'd just been browsing and reading the pointers on posting problems, and decided to add a ps with the make of my PC.

The forum has been having a lot of problems of late. Sluggish to a point of standstill, 'debug' code messages, etc. Apparently it has just been bought by a Singapore company, so perhaps the transfer of ownership has something to do with it. Bit worrying though, just hoping that everything can be restored without any loss of content.

Half the webmasters in Singapore post on here, with questions like "How do I turn my PC on?". I think they are all aged about 14.
