Title: user32.dll blue screen error
Post by: msu715 on February 02, 2009, 10:50:07 PM
Hey, I was wondering what this means and how I can fix it. I can't log into safe mode and this problem continues even after I put in the Windows XP CD. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

I turn on the computer, goes to the Windows XP log-in, black screen momentarily, then the blue screen pops up saying "c0000135(unable to locate component) This application has failed to start because user32.dll was not found.  Re-installing the application may fix this problem.

1. If you have Windows CD, follow the steps from here: http://icrontic.com/articles/repair_windows_xp

2. If you don't have Windows CD...
Download Windows Recovery Console: http://www.thecomputerparamedic.com/files/rc.iso
Download, and install free Imgburn: http://www.imgburn.com/index.php?act=download
Using Imgburn, burn rc.iso to a CD.
Boot to the CD...let it finish loading.
When the "Welcome to Setup" screen appears, press R to start the Recovery Console.
Then, follow the steps from here: http://icrontic.com/articles/repair_windows_xp, starting below this picture on page 1:

I'm going to get my XP CD tomorrow and try it out.  Do you think if I have the CD it will correct this error? Also, I have to boot it from the CD Drive correct?

Yes, you have to boot from Windows CD.
There is no guarantee, but we have to start with some steps.

Is it legit Windows XP CD?
If so, try to clean the CD.

Possible, but it doesn't guarantee, it'll work. No harm to try, though.

I removed the CD but it keeps going through a cycle of the Windows XP screen then reboots over and over again.

Once it's done installing, I remove the CD and change the boot sequence back to internal HDD right?

You don't have to change boot order. CD drive being the first one is perfectly fine.

OK the reinstall worked fine, no more virus problems...HOWEVER, my internet explorer doesn't work, when I try to open it it says "The procedure entry point SHRegGetValueW could not be located in the dynamic link library SHLWAPI.dll" What does this mean?

Go Start>Run ("Start Search" in Vista), type in:
sfc /scannow
Click OK (hit Enter in Vista).
Have Windows CD/DVD handy.
If System File Checker (sfc) will find any errors, it may ask you for the CD/DVD.
If sfc won't find any errors in Windows XP, it'll simply quit, without any message.

Why are you working the same problem in two threads?

Funny, Broni and I are giving the exact same advice...

http://www.computerhope.com/forum/index.php/topic,76041.0.html

The rootkit is still there. We just need to get Windows working.

Yea we should stay there since the rootkit is still active. Hopefully the SCF will work and we can get back to cleanup.

If sfc doesn't work for some reason, I also read, that the above error may be caused by KB834707 update, if installed on corrupt SP2 installation.
