After thinking long and hard about it and probably because of all the angry e-mails MS has announced there will be an upgrade path for XP users to Windows 7.
Full Story. (http://www.neowin.net/news/main/09/02/04/microsoft-windows-xp-to-windows-7-upgrade-possible)

That's pretty cool. So we can upgrade to Windows 7 from XP? But don't they only have a beta version now?

Nope! Gotta have Vista to do the upgrade. I'm running the beta version now, had to do a clean install (I had XP also). The retail copy is suppose to be ready in August of this year I believe......

Seems like it..
-
Sigh...
-
LOL!! My head was up my A$$ that day..... :-\
Sorry guys!
-
That must have been awkward. Did you even go out in pubic?
-
LOL! Luckily that was my day off work so I stayed at home..... :P
-
the question is: Is Win 7 better than Vista? if so then, screw Vista....
-

HAHA didn't even notice.
-
I saw it, but I couldn't think of a clever way to bring it to your attention. ;D
-
How ironic haha.

It looks very similar to Vista, so far every program/software I've tried to use has worked with no problems....time will tell though...

ya, i like the look of Vista, but want to have the stability of XP and 2000.

I've been using Vista,XP, and XP64 on my laptop and the only one that's ever crashed is the XP installation- The vista installation has been running smooth as butter for the last few weeks without a reboot, constant sleep/wakeup cycles, etc. Whereas the XP installs both grind to a halt upon resuming, CPU refuses to go back to top speed of 2.0Ghz and sits around it's sleep speed of 16Mhz. NOT fun to even try to shut it down.... Sound suffers... ugh, it's terrible...

i think when Vista came out, that was the time to strike for Apple, but MS seriously needs to get their act together and get SP2 of it out and all the fixes for Vista.
glad i have Win 2k, isnt it the most stable OS MS released?
and who said old isn't great? ;)
-
Actually windows 7 for a beta is stable enough to make it my primary os. From now!!! Windows 7 is less ressource angry than vista an boot faster. I just hope they gonna keep it that way before release... :-\

thats a good enough for me! gonna get that on my new rig

i recently got a magazine with a review on windows 7 and it says that windows 7 is like an apology for vista :P it isnt a memory *censored* like vista was and will use less computing power, with the beta now booting in under 30 seconds. not bad.
they also said it will be much more user friendly than previous versions and can be ran on low-end hardware.
if you can upgrade from XP to windows 7 then ill be looking forward to that as i never upgraded to vista in the first place :P
-
Vista handles memory differently...you have to lose all those pre-concieved notions about memory management....
BTW Windows 7 handles it in the same way.
-
indeed- it's not about maximizing free RAM... after all, what's the point of buying 1GB, 2GB, or 4GB of RAM if most if it sits unused?
besides- it releases the RAM if another program needs it, so I'm not even sure what the whole huff was about anyway...

A Good Read (http://www.bit-tech.net/bits/2007/10/16/64-bit_more_than_just_the_ram/1)
Although the basis of this 5 page tome' is on 64bit Architecture it has a good explanation on RAM utilisation.
It explains why things are heading in the direction they are....
-
the backwards compatiblity is an issue for 64bit, especially if you have some old DOS games you still want.
and since its 64bit compaired to 32Bit, doesn't it take more proccessor time if the proccessor is a 32bit one.
-
microsoft definitely should let win xp users be able to upgrade to win 7. after all, steve ballmer did say win 7 is win vista done right.
i wonder if win 7 would be more responsive than win vista at times and i do wonder how the memory usage goes so that it makes computer run significantly faster without using so much memory and also i hope cpu usage is otimized as well.
I hope windows 7 is not a piece of crap being publicized by microsoft as a gimmick and i could've gone to linux but linux is crap on software and you have to use the terminal which is like a crappy version of DOS to install programs and whatnot and that i can't stand. I've tried and windows is good. Mac is not bad but PC doesn't like mac and MAC is sort of backwards in terms of the open, close, etc. buttons which i can't really stand either.
-
you know what I can't stand- people that are indecisive in their choice of platform. :P

I am using windows and windows is what i will always be using, but I was wondering if windows 7 would be worth the upgrade when it comes out, and i hear reliable sources saying it come out this year before i get to eat turkey for one whole day again.

Not sure what you are asking here...
As far as an OS goes i've found it to be reliable, responsive and pretty intuitive...
But all i've seen is a BETA.
When it comes to whether you wan't to spend money on upgrading i'm afraid i can't make that decision for you...
