Title: Flash Drive, Zip File, & Insert Multi Volume Set
Post by: Smile on February 23, 2009, 03:45:58 PM
I'm sorry, I posted before I was done typing.

Hello, I hope this is the correct section to post this question in.  (Also, I did a search, and could not find anything similar to my pc issue.)

I was transferring documents from my pc to my flash drive, which is a 2 GB Kingston Flash Drive, I found that free space was becoming limited, so I decided to copy and paste an already existing flash drive file into a zip file I created (I deleted the preexisting file).

All was going well, and I started to copy and paste more documents into the zip file, but from my pc.  Halfway through, a pop up stated that something was corrupted on my hard drive, or on in my flash drive.  I ended the file transfer.  I tried to open the zip file, and I was given this message: Compressed (Zipped) Folders: Please insert the last disc of the Multi-Volume set and click OK to continue.   I was not using any dics.  Underneath the folder, there is stated 176,747 KB, and there is 382 MB free space.  Everything on my pc is working fine, as well as the other few files on my flash drive.

I have tried the following:

Clicking x, okay, and cancel
Removed the flash drive for a few minutes.
Ctrl, Alt, Delete- End Task
Extract all
Copied the zip file to my pc, and tried to open.
Tried to transfer the files again
Tried error-checking, and no issue was found.
System Restore

:) Thank you for any, and all, pc assistance....Also, sorry this is so long.

So what is the question ? ?
There's not enough info in the Topic title to determine the issue.

Interrupting a file transfer can corrupt both  the source file and destination file...
Copy all working files from the flash drive to a safe place and try to open the zip file(original) on the desktop machine...if it won't open it's probably damaged and you will need a file recovery tool such as Recuva.
Meanwhile format the flash drive so it is usable again...

I have tried opening it on my pc itself, and the same Disc Message appeared...I will try this file recovery program.  What or how, I should say, do I go about formatting my flash drive?

One way is to right click My Computer...select Manage...then Disk Management and do it from there...
Be careful not to format the wrong drive...
P.S. If it is being stubborn try it on another machine to backup your important data.

No do NOT format yet...nice catch BC and Thanx !
DLoad and install 7Zip and use it instead of Windows to try and open the zip...
Once you have retrieved the data from the flash drive however it should be formatted so it will continue to work properly...

PLEASE HELP ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have a very similar problem. I have many compressed (zipped) files on my USB drive, they all open but two decided to be very stubborn. every time i try to open or extract them it gives me the exact same message.

"Please insert the last disk of the Multi-Volume Set and click OK to continue."

I've tried so many things including opening it on another computer and researched on many different sites but no luck unfortunately. I have read all the replys in this post and tried even downloading 7zip but it didn't work... If someone can help me out that would be great!!

Thank you so much in advance! :)

Oh and btw I forgot to say I have Windows Vista.
