Title: Audio sounds like it is skipping.
Post by: MLV07 on March 03, 2009, 08:31:58 AM
I have an mini acer notebook and for some reason the audio started to skip like a cd player would skip. It doesn't even have a cd drive for it. I've tried downloading the audio driver for it but its still skipping. Not really sure of what is wrong with it..
Its not just when music is playing. It skips the audio when windows loads up also. I've try to research more on it but couldn't really find anything for it.. So if I can get help on this I would really appreciate it!..thanks.....

I'd bring it back. It's not even 30 days, so you can simply get a new one on the spot.

Acer is an HP Product
Maybe it's skipping like mine used to [due to application overload]   Until I took my Norton AV off........[Thank You Patio & Mr Broni}     Is working fine now  except once in a while when it's creating a restore point or doing an audit or indexing or whatever it's doing.......If you have RealTek they recomend getting driver updates from the Manufacturer's Website so it doesn't conflict with their way of doing things

If all of your drivers correct [current] & it still skips try to turn off or dis-able AV Especially if it's Norton, but don't go online with it off....There is a good page by Patio for what to use for AV & comp security

Maybe, it's me, but I wouldn't even touch 2 weeks old computer, if it's not working properly.

Hp Bought compaq & Acer:, However as fast as things change who knows ?  However the point is to go to the makers website to verify th drivers they use Especially if you get ones from windows Update that aren't necessarily Kosher with your _Particular Computer {This I Know from the RealTek Website}

As far as touching a 2 week old computer, I agree However if you take all the time to take iot back & still have the same Issues Where are you then, when you may be able to find out the cause with a little checking of your Own ?

What does the link show?

Once again.....you don't touch 2 weeks old computer, which is not working properly, because you have no idea what else will go wrong in 1 month, 3 months, and so on.

Acer has been the subject of lawsuits, notably from its rival, Hewlett-Packard. According to the lawsuit, Acer was infringing numerous technological patents, including power management in notebooks. Unleashed that Acer obtained patent designs which are registered by HP, without any approval and agreement. HP has filed damage claim of 3.2 Billion U.S. dollars against Acer for the infringement of patents rights. [10]

Acer America Corporation has previously had an unsatisfactory record with the United States Better Business Bureau. It currently has a BBB Rating of C-. [11]

OK I'm Wrong Sorry

After HP "bought" Acer, or the other way around, HP doesn't sue itself anymore. They settled some patent dispute with themselves...

You spend too much time on a computer, trying to reach those 100 days, because I can see your sense of humor diminishing by minutes :D ;D

Hey MLV...

Just an idea, possibly your drives are stuck in PIO mode.

If you are running XP:
Click start -> Run and type in devmgmt.msc and push enter.
If running Vista/Windows 7:
type devmgmt.msc into the search programs and files box and push enter.

When device manager appears, expand IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers.

right click the ATA channel 0, and select the advanced settings tab, are the drives in PIO mode or UDMA mode?

IF they are in pio, uninstall everything under the IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers section and reboot, let Windows reinstall drives, and channels, and check again.
