Title: Monitor Trouble
Post by: Jeremy Collins on May 02, 2005, 09:56:35 PM
Okay, I just got my new desktop computer via UPS from an online gaming computer company (http://www.cyberpowersystem.com/) and when I tried to plug in my old monitor into it I got no signal. The computer is a pentium four with a nvidia Gforce graphics card, what could the problem be?

Can you borrow a different monitor to try on your computer and try your monitor on a different computer to see if it is the monitor or the graphics card that is the problem ?

I know that its not the monitor because I took the monitor from my old computer which Im using right now with the monitor. Is it possible that the monitor just cant handle the refresh rate or something?

Depending upon the age, brand, model, etc of the monitor it is very possible that it can't handle the refresh rate.

Is there a way to turn down the refresh rate without being able to see on my computer?

No.
You should see something before Windows boots.
Have you tried to start in Safe Mode?  Safe Mode is 640x480 @ 60Hz (the lowest VGA resolution).  If it doesn't work in Safe Mode, send the computer back.
