I would test it out, but firefox still my default browser ;D
-
Voted Yes, since being a web developer requires you test and run all browsers. Still going to remain a FF user since based on the overview don't see many things that impress me and FF has IE beat in plugins.
Official IE8 download at:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/internet-explorer/default.aspx
-
i got it over the weekend , harry
-
downloaded it and tried it. Firefox is still default!
-
I'm surprised half of you would since it's still considered buggy and after the post made prior to this.
-
ie8 is not really buggy. it looks better than ie7 visually but FF is still the default
Chrome is not bad, but it's just needs more time to work as it's still new but I like chrome's sandboxed feature though. Malware or security issues can't be deployed easily that way.
-
can you verify this? i dont want another vista, not that I have any but used them and seem like a vale with xp.
-
I voted yes...though FF is my default, as well. I still have to use other browsers like IE, Opera, Safari so that I can test these against new additions to my site.
...anyway, I need to stay current, too.
-
i wished there was a megabrowser for developers. All the browsers stuck into one app so that website developers only have to run their pages once through the megabrowser app to get the results from all the major browsers to see them all at once.
-
there will never be a universal one.
-
I tried it but I was too used to firefox at this point.
And firefox has more add-ons. :)
-
I've installed it but like others still use Firefox because of all the add-ons.
-
nope not genna use it.
-
I refuse to have IE7 installed on my computer. Why would I want IE8. LOL
-
seven is better then six or eight I find that haveing multi windows open in the task bar can cause issues. The nice thing is that seven compacts them into tabs.
-
I have tried the beta versions and had some issues (slow downs, lock ups, ect) which were too numerous to make a reliable web browser IMO. I will try it again in a month or so and see how it goes then. Give it some time to work the bugs out.
-
i would wait longer then that. look how long it took for vista and such.
-
Yeah you are right. Thanks for making me smile that was funny. I know you were serious too and that makes it worse. ;)
-
Thats horrible, I didnt mean it like that exatly.... oaky I did but only cause I can make xp look like vista and run xp. At least I can make someone ..... :'(

Firefox started having the Tab feature.
-
I have tried the beta version and it is pretty good. It does crash on me quite a bit more than IE7 or FF though.

You can have them in tabs all you have to do is press ctrl+t to open up new tabs on IE8.
-
I will stick with my firefox.
-
Sticking with IE7
-
Sticking with oprea
-
Sticking with Firefox on both Linux and Vista. :)

yep, ie 7 has security patches and stuff phisingYe filter popup blocker. I expected as much.
-
I'm using it now.
It works perfectly.
Cheers.

IE8 has a pop up blocker and a phishing filter and a privacy filter and also a smart down loader that scans downloads to see if a download is safe or not and see if it has been reported
-
I didnt expect that to change

Wow...been around for years...glad to hear they have caught up to things.
-
firefox has got all the stuff and ie's just now implementing them. IE's slow on the go. :P
-

Yep, it even has a compatibility mode so if a webpage that doesn't support IE8 yet you can click the compatibility mode and it will make the site think it is IE7 or older. It will even fix sites that the pictures don't show up right.
-
but thank god firefox doesn't need compatibility mode ;D
-
The down side is when you go to do windows updates its pushing for you to get it know.
-
I won't use IE8. I downloaded it the other day, took 30 minutes and then it didn't work correctly, real slow. My computer is an old dell P3, maybe that was the problem. I removed the program went back to IE7.
I guess there never will be a best overall browser. I have about 5 different browsers on the desk top, which one I use depends on what I'm doing at the time, it's a pain.
-
thats why you should only use one. Know cause your machine is a pent 3 wont have any conficts with it.
-
Thanks for the post. I use only one browser at a time. Are you saying because I have the other browsers on the desktop, that effects IE8?
IE 7 doesn't seem to care how many browsers are on the desktop. It works fine.
-
may be a little hardware senitive then.
-
Or maybe its because your computer is not fast enough to support IE8 and those five other browsers.
-
or that you don't have enough memory and so performance is really not good....
-
::)

My computer speed is 1451 kbps, what is your computer speed?
-
::) it has nothing to do with connection speed.
-

My max memory cap, is 512mb. When I first got his old computer, there were two memory modules, 64 mb and 128 mb. I replaced the 64 mb with a 256mb a few weeks ago, It really improved the performance. I haven't replaced the 128, yet. Memory at the moment is 384 mb. Is there a minimum memory spec for IE8? that is interesting.
-
::)
;)
-
memory has a little to do with it. :P

Hi, I was responding to Clarkcj, if you were talking to me? ;)
-
memory has a little to do with it. :P
I just did a search for minimum specs to run IE8. One place showed 512 mb ram. I'm not running that much, that is a minimum spec. OH well, IE7 works fine. thanks
-
if you're not even running 512 mb of ram, I really doubt how well your computer performance actually is. I consider most computer to need at least 512mb of ram at minimum to be anywhere good.
-
thats the min you need to run xp.
-
My friend ran xp on a computer with 64 or 128 or something. According to microsoft it will run on 64 but 128 is recommended. VERY slow though
-
go figure.
-
Yes my dad had an old dell laptop, which was a very good laptop at that time, it has only 64mb of memory, it runs xp without hitches but it wouldn't have done much more than emailing, word processing, playing music, surfing internet and playing games that are built into windows by microsoft.
-
maybe. ill try it i guess, wasn't to excited about ie7 so idk.
-
maybe. ill try it i guess, wasn't to excited about ie7 so idk.
but in any case, even if you hate ie, I'd still keep the pc updated with ie8.
-
I still wouldnt use 8 so much yet.
-

My old dell runs XP, 384 mb ram. Speed-wise 1450kbps with chrome, 1320s with IE7 and ff. I don't consider those numbers slow. It does ok with most browsers except IE8.
Yes, I agree, this old computer has seen it's best days, my memory is too low.
-
thats internet speed. Its different
-

I up-graded the memory on my old computer a few weeks ago. I didn't do a speed test before the up-grade, didn't know how. Are you saying the internet speed would have been the same before the up-grade? All I know is before the up-grade, FF would get real slow, performance wise, I call it speed. A message would pop-up with FF saying virtual memory too low. I didn't get that message with IE. After I up-graded the memory, no more virtual memory message from FF, all the browsers worked better, faster, performance wise. Internet speed and performance aren't the same thing????? thanks
-
internet speed is same regardless of computer if there's nothing on pc that inhibits the internet data coming in like a program or something. But to say that firefox runs slowly before memory upgrade? That's just your ocmputer being more responsive.
You can't change internet speed by increasing amount of memory you got but you can by adding moire memory, improve responsiveness of programs,
-
ya what I was saying

Thanks for the reply, so if the computer is running slow speed-wise, that isn't a memory issue? Some browsers don't run faster than others? I know how to check internet speed, but, not the speed of anything else.
-
YEAH ... well, if two computer connect to same internet individually (no router, no internet sharing) then you should be able to get about same internet speed, given no malware or other crap slowing down internet for some reason. this means that for same browser on both pc's, you with same configurations, you should be able to access same webpages at about same speeds.
Now, if you're lacking memory for pc, your computer will be slow and applications will load slow. That has nothing to do with internet connection speed.
But to say some browsers are slower than others, well you can tweak browsers for faster speed, you can see how much CPU % it's using.
-
Hello, thanks for the post. I'm starting to see everybodies point. thanks
-
Might test it...I like to test all browsers that come out.
Firefox to me is still unbeatable, that's all there is to it. And my backup browsers are Netscape & Flock (both based on the same technology as FF).
And it did hear IE8 has lots of bugs!
-
yours hears to much. The best thing is to make a seperate pc to try programs on. Thats what I do before putting them all over.
-
I test new programs on a Virtual PC.

Hi, is there a danger trying out new browsers and software programs on your computer?? thanks

Hi, I don't know the specs for running IE8. I did try it, couldn't get it to work right, probably my old computer or I just did something wrong? I did see a minimum memory spec some where for that system, don't know how accurate, 512mb ram, I'm not running much, 384.
-

Not at all. I use the VPC to test software that changes the Windows environment such as themes and desktop tools ect.
Browsers are [usually] perfectly safe to test normally.
-
Thanks for the reply. :)
-
if you're worried, make a system restore point (assuming windows xp, vista or if you're testing windows 7) before installing so you can roll back if you need to (if the normal uninstalling of ie8 browser to go back to previous version not working well)
-
It's classified as a "critical update" and automatically installs if automatic update is on, WHY???
It has caused too many users a lot of grief.
If you have problems uninstall ie8 to get back to IE7 and run windows update manually
for XP uncheck and click the + and then check "do not show again"
for VISTA view available updates, uncheck, right click and hide the update.
-

Thats why.

they want to force people to use it

You don't have to use it, and probably that would make the computer more secure, in that you're getting the latest IE updates from MS and thus thwarting possible hacks and cracks via the IE. But win 7 allows you to disable IE so that it doesn't work on your pc until you re-enable it.
