I'm trying to open up a document that I saved a couple years ago on a floppy disk but it just opens up as a bunch of symbols instead of words. Does anyone know how I can fix this? I really need this document. Thank you

What program did you use to save this document?
-
microsoft word
-
OK, what version of Microsoft Word, or what version of Microsoft Office, please?
To be more specific, do you know with what version the file was written and saved?
What version are you using, now, as you try to open it?
As far as the file, itself: what extension does it have? Is it a .doc file?
Thanks!

Try it with WordPad...Start/Accessories...

When I saved the document I was using Microsoft Word 97 and I saved it as a .doc.
I tried using the word pad to open it but it still doesn't work. The version I am using now is Word 2003.

Word '03 ought open a Word '97 doc, as far as I know.
Does WordPad make any part of the document legible?
(I am not being critical in any way. To me, the .doc should open.)
Just curious.

Is Unicode checked by any chance ? ?

"WordPad" and "Microsoft Word" are two different programs. Wordpad can be found in accessories, and can usually open older Word Documents.
