I want to add a 2003 domain controller to my existing 2000 network. I keep ending up with
"The version of the Active Directory schema of the source forest is not compatible with the version of Active Directory on this computer."
When I perfrom the forest and domain prep, the screen just flashes, so I am not sure that those are taking as well.

You can't add a 2003 DC to a 2000 domain....you can't go backwards.
You have to take the copy of 2003 server CD and put into each 2000 DC a you have in the root of your forest and than run forest prep. This updates the schema on the older domain to handle the new objects in a 2003 domain.
Don't forget to do all your updates to your 2000 DC before doing the forestprep.....
Also this would be a good time to do disk cleanup and a defrag.....

I can't see the forest because of the
.. trees! :-[

Thanks, that did it for me. The only other problem I ran into was the DC was a little stubborn, so I just demoted it and all worked after running the adprep on the master 2000. Only 50 more steps and I will be done ;D

Glad it worked for you!
