For the month of April we thought it would be interesting to see how many USB devices you have connected to your computer. Feel free to not only mention how many USB devices you have but talk about what each device is, how they're attached to the computers, how many hubs you're using, etc.
All past monthly polls and results can also be found on the Computer Hope poll page (http://www.computerhope.com/polls.htm).
-
Right now I have my printer and mouse connected to my computer via usb. I have several usb devices. I have six usb ports on my main computer.
-
Nice computer setup JJ 3000 for having six available USB ports.
I'm using a USB hub mainly because my computer is far away from the main system with seven USB peripherals connected to the computer.
Nice profile picture btw. That's my Cat! :)
-
My Lenovo laptop usually has about 5 or 6 USB devices attached to it.
My Mini has usually 4 or 5.
Cooling Fan
Keyboard
Mouse
External hard drive
2nd cooling fan for lenovo (one on top, one on the bottom ;) )
-
ATM I have a Intellimouse Explorer 3 in one of my USB 1.1 ports, a Logitech Rumblepad 2, and a USB hub, which ATM is connected to my External hard drive, my printer, my MP3 player cord (so I don't lose it :P) and my Digital camera's cord, leaving 2 free slots that I use for my flash drives as needed. The hub is actually a Hub/Card reader combo.
-
I voted 3, but it really depends.
My mouse and keyboard are USB, I also have an internal USB card reader with a USB port, plus two front USB ports connected internally which I didn't count.
Sometimes a printer and one or more flash drives are connected, sometimes my MP3 player, sometimes my phone ... it really depends what I'm doing.
-
I have three, one of which i unplug to take to school, sometimes four when i'm adding some songs or videos to my ipod.
- Lego Mindstorms USB IR tower
- Creative Web Cam
- 2G PNY USB Drive
-
On my desktop: 6 ports, 3 of which are used. (mouse, keyboard, camera)
Laptop: 4 ports, 0 used (guess I don't even need them) :(
-
I put seven or more, it kind of depends, cause I have alot of machines and dont have like one major one exatly I use a combo of things like four differnt ones, not that I am counting them together but that you know just alot of usb devices.
-
My laptop cooling device and mouse are the only things I have plugged in.
-
it just easier to leave the cable to devices connected then its easier to plug them in. I do a lot of other thing but well......
-
I voted four, more or less the norm for my main computer, a mid-tower PC. This consists of an external hard drive, UPS cord, mouse, and printer. So, the number is higher anytime I use other devices I own (MP3 player, several flash drives, digital camera {directly, or via card reader}, and webcam). I don't need a hub, since I never need to have so many devices connected at one time that they exceed the number of USB ports on the computer.
With my notebook PC, I use wireless mouse that uses a USB receiver. Sometimes, I use a USB keypad with it and, of course, sometimes connect a flash drive. Actually, the keypad can function as a two-port USB hub but it works at USB 1.0 speed as a hub.
-
6 devices. I have a USB mouse, wireless keyboard, printer, external HDD, a flash drive for Ready Boost use, and a USB cable always pugged in for downloading pics from my camera.

I have 2 external hard drives, 3 printers, 1 scanner and 1 external CD/DVD burner - all attached via USB.
In addition I have 2 multi-port hubs - 1 four port and 1 seven port which are both powered. Most of the equipment is through the 2 hubs. {You can't have too many USB ports} :o :o :o
I have an E-machine desk top with 4 USB outlets in rear and 2 in front. It's one year old.
My 20" Dell LCD monitor also has 2 USB ports. I try to keep these for flash drives because they are very accessible.
I have been using USB flash drives for several years. My first one cost about $50 and was all of 128 MB.
I'm not sure you can even buy one that small anymore, as most are 1 GB and up nowadays. ???

I have 6. 2 for the Backup drive one for power and one for getting the information. And 1 for my keyboard and 1 for my mouse and 1 for the Switch fub. And one for the printer.

I have my mouse, a cable that can have my psp or camera connected, and my zune cable (not the zune itself)

I agree with that as well.
I almost vomit everytime I hear about that "high school musical" thing.
The most ridiculously unrealistic part of that is they all seem to get along. not likely.

I have 6 USB ports on my computer. All of which are used. Mouse, keyboard, 2 printers, my magicjack, and a hub so I can plug in my thumb drives when necessary ;D. And if I keep getting peripherals I may run out of slots and have to get a bigger hub. But they definitely make life easier.
-
It varies here...
All the time: printer, webcam, external HD
From time to time: iPod video, iPod shuffle, Memorex mp3 player, digital camera, couple of flash drives...
-
I have 3 USB cables hooked up to Broni's machine....long distance. :P
-
Just got rid of them ;D
-
Darn ! !
That's what i get for being brutally honest.
-
However, since it was bi-directional cable, I was able to copy your HD content ;D

-
meanwhile, I was using the cable as a disjoint access point to mind meld with both your PCs, whereupon I made a startling discovery that PCs actually don't have minds. So I finally recovered from the amnesia, put down my "learn how to perform a vulcan mind meld in 24 hours" book, and pondered deeply. I was startled at that point to discover that I was still within the realm of the supernatural via my blasphemous direct wireless brain link to the PCs. learning quickly I was able to also mind meld with my PC and transfer several gigabytes of Goat images to your PCs, as well as setup several shares so I may access them through a proxy which I also acquired via a mental interface.
Oh and btw your PCs were complaining about their rear port itching.
-

Desktop has 4 ports in the rear, 2 in front. I have an external hard drive, a printer, and the receiver for wireless keyboard and mouse connected. I used to plug my camera cable in but lately I have been using the card reader in the printer.

1. Zboard keyboard
2. Raven mouse
3. Webcam
4. Internal card reader (on USB headers)
5. Canon iP3300 Printer
6. HP 1300 Printer/Scanner
7. Logitech joystick
8. USB Hot-swap 3.5" drive bay

1. MP3 player
2. HP Pocket PC
3. Flash drive
-
How do you like the hot swap drive bay ? ?
I was just looking at those...
Any preference for manuf. ? ?
-
It's a generic Chinese-made with no brand name on it actually. It doesn't get much use, just when I'm working on hard drives. I might get a nicer SATA cable one since I have an external SATA port now.
-
External SATA ports = hot swappable ? ?
I may just go that route then...i have a spare Seagate SATA 500G.
-
Yep- SATA is a hot-swappable interface.
Obviously not a good idea to hot-swap boot drives, though.
-
Looks like i'm shopping....after Golf.

Hi there,
I only have 4 USB ports on the PC. Two have connections, first I have my printer connected and then I have my wireless control for my sound system. The other two I only use for connecting my external H/D and mp3 player as and when....

My MBoard has 2 eSATA external connectors onboard so i think i'll pass.
Thanx for the generous offer though.... ::)

I don't get it- he can ship cables, but when it comes to simple paper certificates it can't be done...

A puzzle indeed....maybe Broni can use an eSATA addon card....
-
But what would I get in return for giving him gift cards?
-
I'm using a laptop with 3 USB ports. They're currently connected to a mouse, an external harddrive and a cooling fan with another USB port for misc. items like thumb-drives, an external floppy drive, a lamp etc.
-
I have 6 usb plugs. I have 4 things plugged into the back 4, sometimes I have a flash drive or two on the other two plugs on the front.

Totally one USB 2.0 port support 127 USB devices

Try daisy chaining 127 devices and see what happens.
No wait, try that with 27 devices.
Good luck.

i have my printer my flash drive my keyboard my mouse my digital camera (used as webcam) and all of my usb ports are full (one is broken so that is not used yet imgona solder a new port onto it )

Good luck.
Heck, 4 devices on a single unpowered hub is enough to shut it down. It would only work if you chained about 30 4-port hubs together and powered them all.

Depending upon the current usage of each device, one USB port can support up to 500ma of current and an average flash drive uses about 100ma

This sounds as realistic as MS's minimum XP requirements.....

As an aside, I'm not sure about later versions, but Windows 2K simply can't use hubs daisy chained after a 5th one. (or maybe it was the fifth one that didn't work?).
In any case, if you have that many hubs, you probably have too many USB devices anyway.

Let alone too many wall outlets if you managed to get them all plugged in :P

that too.
I know when I start filling up my surge protector, at some point I think- Is this really necessary? do I really need my shaver plugged in all the time, let alone next to my computer?
Ok, well, not a shaver, but right now I have my router, monitor, speakers, external HD,USB hub, printer, laptop and cable modem in one.
I've been thinking of getting a UPS as well, since our power seems to be unreliable.
heh, one time the power flickered off long enough for my PC to stay off, and I spent a good 5 minutes trying to figure out what was wrong with my monitor. Until I saw the clock flashing. DUH! ::)
-
Your powers unreliable too? So is mine! And they wanna rasie the price too!
-
i have 8 usb ports on my home made comp.but only one on my thinkpad,
my prenter, camera, headphones, keybord, mouse, and flashdreves, are all usb, there not all hooked up at the sane time but they could be .but i need a 4in1 hub for my thankpad to use more thing 1 thing at a time
-
I have my external hard drive plugged in. It used to be on firewire but for some reason my computer wouldn't always recognize it then, especially with short periods between turning on and off. The other one of my 5 USB ports is permanently occupied by either a digicam, mp3player or flash drive.
-
Does your flash drive look like the one in your avatar?
-
I think that if you want that you can get them real customized like that. Kind of makes me hungry
-
The Burger King, or Ronald would like to have that style for their computer needs :D
-
Hello,
I have 2 computers that I have 2 USB devices plugged into all the time, plus my 2 flash drives, depending on which computer I am working on.
On computer 1 I have a USB printer and Mouse hooked up.
On computer 2 I have a USB mouse and Keyboard hooked up. I also had 8 USB ports on this computer until my brother decided I didn't need my front USB ports and broke them for me. :(
