Title: Windows Vista Home basic wont boot
Post by: trubor on April 05, 2009, 08:30:35 AM
Yesterday, I went to turn on my desktop and just before it could boot into windows, it shut down and a message on the monitor say "ower saving enabled. The computer will shut down in a few seconds"  then monitor went blank but the power button kept blinking. I tried restarting several time but get the same message.

Any idea what's happening and how to fix it?

Not a lot to go on.

How old is the machine? Any problems with it recently? New hardware or software installed? Give us something to work with....

Sorry about that brundle. The computer is about 16 months old. There have been no recent updates to software ( not counting Norton 360 trial) in the last two weeks. Everythings has been working fine until Friday evening when the system suddenly will not boot into Windows. I am not able to start in safe mode nor initiate the repair mode in Vista, consequently, I am unable to check for the problem. I have some important files that I want to save. Incidently, I tried to used th restore disk to atleat get into the OS but that too quit just before Windows could boot up. I can't think of anything else. If you have specific questions, I will try to provide information.

Thank you.

If you have important files to save hook up your drive as a slave in a working machine and backup your data...Vista does not need to be running to do this.

Thanks for the input Patio. I understand that process. I will do that if no other solution is recommended. I do want to solve the problem with the computer not booting up, however.

If you can get into BIOS setup, look for the screen with 'Power Saving Features' listed and change it to 'Disabled' ....... Don't forget to 'Save Changes' when you exit the BIOS setup screen.
