Title: Missing Operating System, Please Help
Post by: zachkuehn on April 20, 2009, 10:10:29 AM
Ok I was recently trying to do a BIOS update on my ASUS m2n32 Sli-deluxe motherboard and it said to set your BIOS settings to default before the update, so I restarted the computer and did that and then saved changes (I am running Vista 32 bit).  Well, the computer then went to reload and after the BIOS screen I am getting the message "missing operating system".  So, I restarted the machine and went into the BIOS to see if anything had changed and it is still detecting my hard drives and the boot order is still CD, HD, other and the message still comes up.  So i booted it with my recovery CD (i only have this from ASUS, not a full Vista disk) and i ran the startup repair even though it could not recognize an operating system and it came back with the response it could not fix the problem and these codes:

Problem event name: Startup Repair V2
Problem Signature 01: External Media
Problem Signature 02: 6.0.6000.16386.0.0.0.0
Problem Signature 03: 5
Problem Signature 04: 65537
Problem Signature 05: unknown
Problem Signature 06: corrupt partition table
Problem Signature 07: 0
Problem Signature 08: 1
Problem Signature 09: FixPartitionTable
Problem Signature 10: 1168
OS Version: 6.0.6000.2.0.

It looks to me like the partition is corrupt but I am not sure, and I am not computer literate enough to know what to do next.  Any advice would be much appreciated, thank you in advance for the help.

Why did you flash the BIOS ? ?

ASUS has a BIOS recovery option...did you save the old BIOS ? ?

I was having graphics card problems that would freeze my computers display driver with this error called nvdllmkm and updating my graphics drivers was not solving so I wanted to update the BIOS to see if that would help because ppl I talked to said it worked for them.  I honestly made a mistake by doing this on my own because I probably am not comp literate enough to know how to do it correctly, but I went onto the ASUS website and it said to update my bios to download the flash utility and the .bin file and set the settings to default before you do it.  That is when the problem occurred, I never did update the BIOS because the windows will not boot to get to the flash utility, I just set the existing BIOS to its default settings.  I didnt save anything yet because I figured after I set the settings to default I would save the BIOS before the update.  Unfortunately windows will no longer load.
