Title: What OS is your personal favorite?
Post by: milesman on May 08, 2009, 07:29:56 PM
Hey there!

I know this poll may seem a bit odd but this is a very interesting poll actually. All I'm trying to find out is your favorite OS. (You can choose up to 11 LOL) So, have fun with it!

Is this for a school project or something?

If you want valid results for what is the most popular OS you need to limit people to one choice.

Why is this in the Drivers board?

I actually think this should be in the Other board, since Mac and Linux are also options.

Anyway, Vista is my favourite.

It depends on which computer I'm using and what I want to do, as to what my favourite OS is.
Several of my general favourites are not on the poll.

No this is just for my own knowledge. You know. I'm building a PC and was seeing which OS is liked best. My favorite's are windows XP, and Mac 10.5.6.

I have a few.

1. Windows 3.1 is great, it helped revolutionize computer technology.
2. Windows 98SE, used it for many years, it's awesome os for it's time.
3. Windows XP and 2000 a both top notch and I still use both
4. Windows 7 rocks, much better than Vista

This seems to be doing well... Well I can't find how to limit it to one vote per person. Oh well... It's at least SOMETHING to talk about.

LOL. Anyway, this is doing great! Keep on voting. Also, Microsoft had released a BETA of windows 7 for free download. But they discontinued the BETA release. Does anyone know another URL I can download it at? Legally?

Get the RC (better than the beta) from the Official Micorsoft web site here:

From what I've gathered you don't need a beta to install the RC.

Thanks for confirming what I thought computeruler. ;)

I'll be getting the RC in a few days here myself. Until now I've been using the beta.
I think the M$ web site said the RC was available to June.

I can't exactly vote here since my favorite O.S. so far has been FreeBSD.

And you've also listed several flavors of windows while only listing Linux as "Linux".... when Linux has far more flavors than windows.

You can not even upgrade from windows 7 beta to windows 7 RC without hacking one of the files that comes with windows 7 RC so you don't need beta at all.

This doesn't make sense...
There is no upgrade path......
It needs a clean install.
They never planned an upgrade path and anyone who is trying to hack it to death is doing an awful lot of work for nothing.

You can upgrade from beta to RC, but microsoft didn't want you to do it, so they disabled the option by default. The installer would just check the major OS version and only show up the clean install path. But to get around that, it's just a simple number change to one of the files, not that difficult. It's not really that big of a hack. See following link if you want to upgrade from beta to RC.

1) Their both Free...

2) Even MS suggests a clean install as does TechNet and MSDN...

So why would you want to do this ? ?

All I am saying is that it is possible to do it. I am not saying that you should do it.

Windows 98SE is the best followed by XP. I still have 98SE installed on one of my computers.

well, if your hardware works on it and your apps you want to use work on it, then i'd say it's usable.
