Title: Word 2003 putting in unwanted symbols
Post by: mermaidude on May 14, 2009, 12:53:40 PM
I've had this happen before but don't remember how to fix it. I'm on Vista using Word 2003 and when typing my document today and it's also affecting Outlook email I'm getting odd symbols. For example if I type a question mark ? instead I get É

It started when I noticed my apostrophes were backwards. When I type don't instead I get don`t. Quotation marks are also backwards.

I've checked my language to make sure I'm still set for Amercian English and I am. It almost looks like I'm getting Spanish language symbols.

It appears that some sort of keyboard shortcuts have turned on and I don't know how to get them back and get my documents looking normal again.

Can anyone help?

Thanks!

The keyboard settings are in another area, I think.
You could be witting English but the keyboard could be on Spanish.
Look into regional settings.
This is how it looks in XP.

Thanks. I've got it figured out now. Apparently it is playing French, not Spanish. Ctrl + Shift + FN got rid of the antics and computer is back to writing normally.
