Title: Update on my folding
Post by: Calum on May 25, 2009, 08:50:45 AM
My graphics card's been getting very toasty lately with the warmer weather, so I'm purchasing a new cooler tomorrow.
My server's also quite warm, so I'm upgrading the cooling on that.
I've been turning in less units lately because of the heat, but on the upside I'm hopefully adding a new graphics card to my server soon specifically for F@H (that may also need a better cooler, we'll see).  Finally I have a new motherboard which I'm hoping to use for my main computer, I need to see if it works tomorrow.  If so, I should be able to clock my processor up and maybe add another graphics card if I can persuade my friend to let go of both (he's selling me one for my server and has another identical one which he doesn't need).
Doing my best to keep my performance up for the team :)

We're very close to the 1.5 million point mark - fold on!

I have my new graphics cooler and have reinstalled all cooling on my server - all temps are now excellent, so that's sorted.
Have changed my server over to 2 single core clients, as it wasn't making all of the SMP deadlines and I decided against overclocking it.
The new motherboard works fine, I've tested it - I just need to find time to do a fresh install of Windows so I can use it, now.  Also ordered new chipset coolers for it, as the current northbridge cooler on the board blocks my CPU cooler and is ineffective, the southbridge doesn't have a heatsink and got very toasty whilst I was testing.

Very good news.

I can't get my better half to run the Folding on her system consistently.

There is another older system in the house which we just brought up and running -- if we get it connected to the 'net, maybe I can have it start folding, too.  Another 2.0 Ghz processor...so it's not a screamer, but I still fold between work and home.

I'm pleased we have some folks with great hardware -- I still hope to have something better in the next year or so.

I apologize -- this is really about Calum being particular about his hardware temps., and working on improving hardware and results.  Very cool!

There's nothing wrong with discussing other folding here, it's all for the same cause.
Every little helps, whether it's a Pentium III or a quad socket server system with 16 cores and four graphics cards.
My new cooler kept me awake some of last night, the blue LED is really annoying and I'm going to try and find the wire so I can snip it later today.  There is a reason why I hate gimmicky things, the silly window in my case makes it even worse so that's going soon enough too.
