Going off what Quantos started what do you have to protect those LCD monitors of yours. Not that there really that relevant anymore. But hay most people have one.
Here's mine, obviously it does move down the screen it's not static.

Mulreay, did you rotate that 180?
The numbers on it are all backwards.
I actually don't use a screen saver, I've never found one that I don't get tired of. As a result my screen just powers down.
-
There not numbers mate. It's the 'Matrix'. I've had this screensaver for about 2yrs and never get bored of it.
-
Try it

There not numbers mate
I know it's the Matrix, but yes, there are numbers in it. Take a close look at the static image that you posted. Some of the characters are numbers, and they all appear backwards.
<edit> Except for the 8's and 0's of course, they look fine :) </edit>
-
Obviously there are numbers upside down like 9 is quite promenant but that's the way it runs. :D
Try it
-
Another Matrix Screen Saver uses glyphs which include reversed letters, numbers, and Japanese katakana characters.
Apparently they're supposed to be reversed, and there's letters too...
<edit> Definately cool, I think I'm gonna try that one for a while. Thanks man. </edit>
-
Try it out mate it looks great ;D
-
upside down like 9
I think those are backwards 6's. ;)

Makes you feel like your computer is doing something even when your not there.
-
No screen saver at all. All power options disabled. That matrix screensaver was the one on all the PCs in my old schools best computer lab :)
-
No screen saver at all.
Really?
-
I seldom leave a screensaver active either because it interferes with games, moves, etc, and most of the time I just hibernate my laptop.

Thank you for your totally irrelevant message. Cool.
-
Attacking my posts? Really? Thanks man, I'll remember that.
-
heh, that wasn't irrelevant.
Really?
Yeah, no screensaver. my laptop goes to the login screen again after a while. been meaning to change that.
-
Yeah, I use to have mine setup to go blank, now I just close it when I leave and off to sleep it goes. Works good that way, have to get past the hardware boot password and the logon software password.
-
Attacking my posts? Really? Thanks man, I'll remember that.
Lol :D
-
<commentator> They've dropped the gloves folks, the ref's are moving in, this is it now... </commentator>
-
no screensaver for me. Just a blanked out screen at intervals via the power save options. They say screensavers reduce LCD life, I don't know. But sure it did reduce CRT screenshot burn-ins. :)
-
I have an LCD monitor that hasn't been turned off in over 16 months. Screen savers won't shorten its life.
-

Have to agree.
-
I know that red hat has it built in. Its not hard to make a bat matrix but screensaver is differnt. Its not so demanding like it was when we had CRT's.
-
The last monitors known to burn-in were the monochrome displays.
colour monitors could be burned in too- but the only instance I've seen of that was a computer in a school lab that was at the "It is now safe to shutdown your computer" screen for 2 months. the monitor was still usable, but you could make out the words if you squinted enough.
-
BC is right, all CRT displays could suffer burn in. JVC had a line of digital CRT scanning monitors back in the 90's that couldn't however, they were professional level and used in the AV industry, usually editing houses. They were tremendously expensive and never caught on for that reason.
example - they started at roughly $10,000
-
thats steep, todays dont suffer from that as badly though. However a burn in isnt so bad we still use them till there gone.
-
my point was- it took 2 months for it to burn in, and it was STILL almost invisible.
How often do you leave the same display on your screen for 2 months?
-
try longer... :-\
-
try longer... :-\
the SAME image? No change?
-
6 9 , Hey it's all good ;D
-
I'm not sure since there burned all ready. But its something that cant be turned off since we have to know that were still connected. I recall a few with screen savers but not too many do.
-
LOL
-
I usually don't use a screen saver anymore, I just turn the thing off.
I know I had a CRT back in the Win98 days that had the Start button and task bar burnt in. You could only see it if you were running something full screen and the background was very light (like white or yellow), but it was there.
-
Oh I forgot to reply to the question:
My screensaver is a picture slideshow. Simple and relaxing.
-
I only really have it cause when I'm useing an get up too leave for a while an dont want to turn off the monitor other then that. I turn it off an then maybe unplug the system.
-
If anything I'm going to kill the drive in my system 'cause of the fact that I hibernate the laptop everytime I leave it.
Current Up-Time (Not in hibernation, just time that its been out of hibernation since the last reboot)
9 days, 7 hours, 47 minutes, 50s
-
my PC actually crashed because I left in on too long. At least that's what I hope it was. (it was on for over a month, so it's not surprising)
Video driver failed catastrophically. I was able to do Windows key+R, cmd, and alt+enter to get text mode- but switching back failed.
I was able to shutdown the system using shutdown -s though, so it wasn't all bad. just pressed y for all the save prompts :)
-
Something stupid usually happens before I break three weeks, the laptop will come unplugged while in game, the computer will go into standby too late and simply shut off. I'll get a BSOD because of the 185.85 nVidia 8600M GT, I'll get a driver crash and it'll revert to 600x480 @ 8 bit, ect. That or something weird happens with the drivers and I just say screw it and reboot.
-
Probably will get a custome one for my build when I get it done with. Depends what happens today for the most part.

I'm sorry squall, I'm an @$$hole. Just in case you didn't notice this before....
<edit> I really am. </edit>

I was talking about another colourful character.

Here I thought it was all about me.

I keep getting censored, I digress and forget that this site isn't adult. I'm really sorry guys, I really don't mean anything by it.
I will try harder to remember.

There is nothing good about oppression. Make a speech!
-
<censorship> I feel that </censorship>
-
Ah I didnt think there was a link too it.
-
There is nothing good about oppression. Make a speech!
I can think of several 3rd world country leaders who would disagree with you. Some of them find oppression very lucrative.
-

-
It's true. I won't mention any names, as I've known of foreigners being deported for making critical statements of certain political figures in certain countries both on and offline, but it really is true. When you really get down to it, it's sad what cruelty human beings are really capable of.
Oh, I just remembered, I'm using the "Windows Energy" screen saver on my laptop. Typically, like I said before, I don't use screen savers though.
-
Its not really sad when you think about it, its the natural process, from the womb, to a battlefield, to the coffin, as was the way of humans for thousands of years, as still is the way, as will always be the way.
At least you don't have to worry about some naked raging Frank viking coming out of nowhere and hurling a axe at you. But if you do happen to run into one, your screwed.
As humans we are always improving and inventing new ways to kill each other and other things... I've got a funny video to hammer this point.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rxO0jkiW5ww
Only version I can find, dunno if they've edited it but if its the original version its hilarious.
-
err...
Frank Viking?
The Franks later became the French (for hte most part)... the Vikings were essentially Norsemen...
that's almost like saying, Korean Viking, or something.
-
korean vikings? koreans didn't change to something else, so maybe not ....
-
those that never succumed to evil will never know the pain of surpression.
-
Now you sound like your from a death camp or something Squall.
-
which way do you mean?
-
those that never succumed to evil will never know the pain of surpression.
Actually they are the people who do know suppression!
-
I dont like to mention anyone. :( :-X
-
I dont like to mention anyone. :( :-X
Then please don't ;)
-
still yet to try it, busy with other things
-
Mine is just a simple picture I took in Cozumel a few years ago just because I like to stare intently at it and pretend that I am there or at least going back soon!
-
I looked at it, by default its to fast an needs to have been slower. The thing is fairly interesting.
-

You can change the settings in screensaver properties.
-
I know that, just that with it that fast it dont look like the real thing and makes me feel sick.
-
I like the euphoria screensaver on www.reallyslick.com. they're all open source screensavers and are really cool.
I also have a screensaver that I more or less had to pay for. It's from www.soundspectrum.com and is included in the g-force platinum package. (If you've never checked out g-force, you have to now)
But at work, I just use something simple like mystify.scr or logon.scr. I experience quite a bit of burn-in, even on LCDs because of how the computers are used here.
-
thats intresting but Im not code savy.
-
Suprising, VB 2005 has a ScreenSaver template ;D
But mine is just the regular 3D Maze
-
thats intresting but Im not code savy.
you don't have to know code to run a screensaver....
-
you don't have to know code to run a screensaver....
Maybe on an old 4004 or 8080?
-
I don't use any screensaver at the moment. When I do use one, I usually have it set to about an hour.
I do use the automatic sleep function on my laptop though.
-
I have no clue, I keep mine set out till about a minute or so then it blacks. I have two differnt ones I use. Found my self useing the matrix one. Also, yeah you do when it comes to linux since its complexity.
-

that doesn't necessarily mean code...
Although it sure helps to know C... or so I hear.

Maybe if you're using ubuntu server, but any other flavor of linux has built in screensavers that you just have to click on...... where do you get your information, The Onion (http://www.theonion.com/content/scitech/)?
-
I want to learn something like C++ but right now I dont know. No ::) I just assumed fairly new with it an havent done the stuff in a while.

And I suppose you haven't got the time, either?
-
Hardly, especially right now. You guys need to realsie that not all of us sit here all day.

Ha! That's funny. Okay, I'll stop now. Unfortunately, my way of making money comes from being on the computer. ;D

and
General Statistics - squall_01:
Total Time Spent Online: 47 days, 6 hours and 26 minutes.
your in the TOP 10 for pete's sake...
-
That is false info. At least I think, I find your lack of humor thining an not funny an will report you in need be.
-
Squall, get real. You should be reported to the SPCA......
http://www.computerhope.com/forum/index.php?action=stats
At least I think,
In future, "think" before you speak.
-
I didnt mean you.
-
I didn't say you did. You see, this is how whole threads go off-topic.
I was only correcting you, which is what generally happens at a discussion forum if someone is mistaken.
-
I didnt mean you.
Did you mean me?
-
That is false info.
No. It isn't. taken directly from your profile!
http://www.computerhope.com/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=30633;sa=statPanel
your going to report me for presenting facts? seems a bit odd.
you may not "sit here all day" but I doubt anybody does; but those of us in the top ten probably didn't get there popping in for 10-15 minutes.

Yeah BC what have you been told about presenting facts on a fact finding forum... You never learn do you! ::)
