Title: Asus rampage + Thermaltake Armor LCS - no go
Post by: Pyrofella on July 11, 2009, 11:05:38 AM
Hi.... I am a bit peeved and somewhat mystified...
I have just finished building a new system and for reasons that evade me, it has failed.
I went to a lot of trouble (and expense) to build a great computer.......As listed...

Motherboard : Asus Rampage Gene II
CPU : Intel i7 920
Ram : 6GB Corsair 1666 DDR3
Video : Palit GTX285 1084MB
PSU : Gold Label Power 860W
Case : Thermaltake Armor+ LCS
H/D : Samsung 1TB
O/D : LG Blueray burner
Monitor : Asus LCD VW220

The whole kit and kaboodle is brand new.
I have built many computers over the years and consider myself  as competent.
I presicely followed each manfacturers guidelines (manuals) and, initially, could not forsee what was to happen...
Every thing appeared to function - Drives kicked in - fans spun - Liquid Pumped - Video Card hummed away........ and thats all it did....
No Monitor display (no signal detected)
I rechecked everything was in place.... all appeared fine....
I removed and reinstalled the video card  - Nothing!
Reseated the ram Modules - Nothing!
I unplugged all the connections and redid them - Still Nothing!
I eventually disassembled the entire project and redid it from scratch - Again Nothing!
I have since reassembled this machine 8 times and still no display!
I swapped video cards - same problem

I have given up ......

What did I overlook?

I now own the the most expensive doorstop in Australia!

Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated

Welcome to the forums - nice machine you have there.
Did you try a different monitor and cable yet?

Hi...
Yes - done that - same outcome... no display

Since my last post...
The computer will power up - power down (a second or so) - power up again
it will do this 3 or four times - then stays powered up - still no display though.

Sick power supply maybe?

Do you have a different gpu to test it with?

MBoard standoffs in place ? ?
Was Thermal Paste applied properly ? ?
Does the card require a 4pin ATX power cord ? ?

I'd try another PSU before a vid card.

Yes to all

I'm now guessing it's  the psu as well----
The computer is now starting (powering up) - shuting down for a second or so - then repowering.
It will do this three or four times before staying powered.

On several attempts by me to power it up - the computer is dead - no power at all.
Then it will power up first time.

Still no display though

Thanks for the response

Ya it does sound like the psu.  But as patio said, are the 6 pin connectors for the gpu plugged it?

yes.... plugs were set

It turns out the problem is the PSU

A-Power Gold Label 860w - 860w my *censored*!
The specs on the label (which I didn't understand at the time) show it to be actually no better than a 200-300w unit

It can't run my setup at all

I have since ordered a Gigabyte Odin GT 800w
Check it out - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=thAjRPubrHE

All (hopefully) will be well once this is fitted and I can get the Beast running!

I'll keep you posted...

Thanks heaps to those who pitched in with advice  ;)
