Title: HELP--Came home from vacation--Now computer won't power up???
Post by: Fireborn on July 15, 2009, 10:27:24 AM
Hi Everyone,

We have a 2 year old PC that gets general household use.  We powered down our PC before we went on vacation, and when we got back, it wouldn't power back up.  I figured that it might be time for a new power supply, so I bought a new Coolmax 600wt ps.

Now, when I go to turn it on from the main front panel switch, still nothing happens.

But when I switch off the power at the power supply switch at the rear of the case where the cord gets plugged in to, and turn it back on, the fans on the case and cpu "engage" and "light up" for a split second and then shut back down again???

Any thoughts on what I could check out would be appreciated.  I'm hoping the mb hasn't decided to crap out on me.

Everything is plugged in where it needs to be and all connections are sung.

Thanks,

Getting the pin connectors which connect the power switch and LED's, etc., from the front panel to the motherboard can be a pain.  You might double-check those.

What was the computer doing before you replaced the power supply?  Did the fans or LED's come on at all?

The old ps and computer didn't do anything when turned on.

The old ps did have an "illuminated" switch that flickered intermittently.  I removed it to see if the fuse may have blown inside the ps box itself.

When I opened up the case, several components including the fuse looked pretty toasted.  That's what prompted me to replace the whole ps unit.

If the PSU was that toasted, I might expect the motherboard to have problems as well........It would be wise to stay out of PSUs' as a rule , otherwise you could find yourself airborne rather than Fireborn. ;)

By case, I did mean the PSU case.
