Very nice build.
Are you planning to push your CPU much further?

what power supply are you using? I think you forgot to list it  :)

Gah, I missed that too, heh.  Also, what OS?
Just another quick note to the OP - you might want to list your specs in your profile so people can see them in every post you make if they want to.

or if you later have a problem or a question relating to your computer, you don't need to always list your pc information since it'll be right there.  :)

Ha, yeah, I was kinda rushing so i knew i had forgot something lol, im using a Corsair HX620 Modular PSU, been great, although i havent liked the cables.. (on a sata cable a pin got pushed back when i plugged it in the sata on the dvd rom, there really like rough and not very good quality, tried a sata that came with my Gigabyte motherboard, went in so perfectly and easy.
But either than that, i like the flat cables :).
For the OS im using Windows 7 64Bit RC (7100) Love it lol, runs so smooth, havent found anything yet that doesnt work on it!
And later on I may push the CPU further, but i guess i dont really need to now lol, it idles around 30C now :)
Yeah, i'll put it my specs in my profile now - thanks :)

Nice, what NIC(Network Interface Card)?

So what NIC did you incorporate into the build?
Title: Re: New Core I7 Build

Why are you so obsessed wit the NIC!?  Im going to guess that it was just the onboard lan

The OP has gone into detail on everything else.

I remember my first IESA card.  Enquiring minds want to know.
Title: Re: New Core I7 Build

EISA.

That was a short-lived standard. Say, remember VL-Bus? I still have a book that has a little inset that says to "wait before buying PCI or VL-Bus to see which one wins out" heh, I guess PCI won.
Title: Re: New Core I7 Build
Post by: Quantos on July 28, 2009, 05:24:51 PM
Yes, but I could control the bus speed of EISA, I don't remember much of VL.

Anyway, I still wanna know what NIC he used.
Title: Re: New Core I7 Build

Probably the onboard one.....
Title: Re: New Core I7 Build

What is the point of having a "NIC" If you have onboard gigabit. Even if you don't have gigabit you probably are fine because I can't think of a game that that would use that much of your bandwith. It's not like a add on card can make you any faster. you only need a ton of bandwith if you are constantly downloading things, running a server, or you are a constent torrent seeder.

I can.

Ok what game?
Title: Re: New Core I7 Build
Post by: BC_Programmer on July 28, 2009, 08:45:51 PM
gigabit is great for LAN transfers, through networked machines. for example my laptop (wireless N, 300mbps) and my desktop (100/1000) have sharing setup between them... copies go much faster then when I limit it to a 100mbps connection.

Ok what game?

Anything on a WAN.  You're limited by the server.

Actually, I don't remember asking you for your opinion, I'm sure I was asking the fellow that built the computer what he used.

Ya a server. It's the server that has to have the high bandwith not you. Unless like I said, you are the one running the server.

Yes that is true but I asked you a question and I think everyone would be happier if Cahl would just post and tell us what he is using.

I answered your question.

I also seem to be the only one interested in what he is using as a NIC.

I wouldn't mind knowing... but I can practically guarantee it's the on-board component.

considering how much most people use the net these days, it's amazing how little attention is often payed to the network adapter.

Probably NIC seems to be pretty much the same, and I mean if nobody's really caring about the NIC, then any decent one one do, even if it's the onboard one.

Crap! Sorry guys lol, i stopped checking because no one replied for a few days lol, this isn't like other forums i guess!
To answer your question, I'm using Onboard lol, I didn't think a seperate card was nessacery for internet (And i'm not entirley sure if i know what it is, im guessing its a card that like keeps LAN/WAN speeds fast and stable? Am I right?

I have no idea what kizza1645 is talking about lol, a transformer?? Haha, that'd be cool.

Yeah, so sorry it took so long to reply, and could ya'll give me a heads up on NIC and if i'm on the right track of what it does?

Thanks. (I'll make it notify of replies now, and i'll check back every day haha) :)
