Pauline [ ps very much a novice........be gentle with me!

check the monitor plug.

check the monitor plug.
EI Systems is a PC World brand of laptops, there is no seperate screen.
pkb1: What you can do is plug a spare moniter into the plug at the back and see if that works.
-
*facepalm*
EDIT:
the monitor doesn't look like a laptop to me.

Unless of course he has a laptop with that monitor plugged in?
-
In which case my original reply is pertinent, and it is a separate screen.
-
IT IS NOT A LAPTOP JUST A REGULAR PC, sorry caps on....................i have plugged and un plugged the monitor with no difference, if there are no other suggestions i'll have to find someone with a laptop to plug in, quite difficult as we have just moved here to Cyprus and dont know anyone yet!
thanks so far

Do you have another monitor that you can try?
Do you have another computer that you can test that monitor with?
-
nope! just this one [poor me!] i might just have to call a repair man out but being Cyprus i could take him weeks to actually arrive!......lol
-
well, it sounds to me, like the red channel is out. But this is often caused by a pin not connecting with the video card.
I had a monitor that would do that as well; red would dissapear (purples become blues, yellows become greens...)
If I had to bet I'd say it was the monitor.
-
so i guess its buying a new one time then? i thought there might have been some way i had altered the colour somehow un whittingly and might have been able to put it back to default......oh well, another expense i could dop without right now!
thank you for your help, now i have found this site [ and stored as a favourite!] i will be here loads you xcan bet!

Nope, unfortunately I don't know of any software issue that could cause this.
On the other hand; it can't hurt to check;
have a look at your "display" in control panel; (right click the desktop and select "properties", or "personalize" for vista).
check the Settings Tab/Icon; make sure the colour is set to "32-bit colour". 8-bit colour can cause some strangeness with colours as well.
If this is 32-bit already; then it almost surely is the monitor (of course, assuming you've eliminated the plug). There is also the remote chance that it is the video card... but I have never heard of that happening.

I agree with BC here...
For a final test also you could borrow another monitor and hook it up to see if in fact it is the monitor....
-
try setting the display to 16 bit color
right click the desktop on an empty spot click the bottom entry on the menu
find where it says color quality choose 16 bit
(i have had green go out when in 32bpp)
do not use 8 bit it will look very bad
also some video drivers you can turn color chanels off
check for any kind of manufacture specsific control panel for you video card
and make sure RED is on ;D
-
thank you, i did the first bit and changed to 16, its not as vivid a black [ if that makes sence?] but certainly not red!..................not sure how i do anything to find out if "red" is turned on?
you are all being soooooooo kind
thank you

I think that he means to say to check your Color Management.
I don't see that changing your color depth will solve anything.
-
color management thats what its called
try anotehr moniter too
-
ok, as i said i am a real novice, how does one go about checking "colour management"? please..............oh and by the way, i'm female!

Have you checked your video card properly seated?(If you have one) ....The fact you just moved the computer leads me to believe you may have dislodged the card slightly during your move. The monitor plugs into this card. Remove the card and carefully reseat it. Remember to touch the metal case BEFORE touching the component.....
-
karnac i dont think pkb1 knows how to do that
you can download power strip to adjust color management
check any items on taskbar
some you can right click and a video menu come up
