I am working on a HP Pavilion a462x running Windows XP Home Edition. The computer will load all the way up to the Windows XP screen, flashes the "blue screen of death", and then reboots. The owner of the computer no longer has any recovery discs. I have run CHKDSK /R several times to no avail. I have a Windows XP Professional disc. Is there any way to create a recover disc for the HP? Am I completely overlooking something?

you dont need a recovery disk
i would say just reinstall windows
most data should stay where it is
some other member of the forum can give better advice on installing windows

Boot to safe mode & go to system properties - advanced - startup & recovery settings then uncheck "automatically restart". Next time the blue screen will remain up - post the contents of that screen here. If you can't get to safe mode, Press F8 as your system boots and choose "disable restart on error".
