Title: dead/stuck pixels along the same vertical line...
Post by: nosoup4crr on August 21, 2009, 10:40:40 AM
Hi, all.  I'm currently running windows XP on my system.  These are my current spec's.

AMD Athlon 64x2 dual core processor 4400+
2.21 GHz, 4GB RAM
Geforce 7600 GT
ABIT AN8 32X motherboard
450 W Rosewill PSU

I just reformatted my hard drive.  I reinstalled up-to-date drivers for my video card and all other hardware.  However, I've noticed strings of dead/stuck pixels on dark backgrounds on my monitor.  It normally starts right after bootup, only less uniformly.  You can see larger red, green, and blue blocks (1-2mm) spread in various spots on the "press tab to enter CMOS" screen...and some on the windows loading screen.

In addition, once I'm connected to the internet, I will see single stuck/dead pixels against dark backgrounds.  Once I scroll down with the wheel, they will form patterns of dots at even increments along the save vertical line.  When I scroll with the bar (in a smooth sliding motion), it will almost make completele lines of the colored pixel--almost like the single pixel is making imprints on the webpage.  However, this never happens when I'm playing a game.  All pixels seem to stay solid.

I'm trying to figure out if this is a problem with my video card or with my monitor, so that I can correct it.  I've clocked my video card, and the problem will occur, even when it's running at 55C.

Any ideas on possibly figuring out the culprit would be appreciated.

Possibly a stuck or bad column in the display panel driver chip and/or circuit in the monitor. A test by substitution will identify whether it is the monitor or the video card.

under or over clocked?

Could have been overclocked to the extent that it cooked a chip, and now is faulty even at normal settings.
