Title: blue screen

I HAVE A DELL INSPIRION 4000 WHEN I START UP IT RUNS THUR AND THE WINDOW 2000 PROFESS.OR WINDOW ME  COMES UP THEN GO TO A BLUE SCREEN HARD TO READ WHAT IT SAID BECAUSE IT SHUT DOWN AND RESTARTS AGAIN. SOME OF THE STUFF WAS REGISTRY ERROR   AND SOMETHING DUMPING PHYSICAL MEMORY   DUMPING OF PHYSCIAL MEMORY COMPLETED AND THEN IT RESTARTS AGAIN AND KEEPS COMING WITH THE SAME. I HAVE TRIED TO GO IT SAFE MODE AND LAST CONF AND THE SAME BLUE SCREEN COMES UP...

IT LOOKS LIKE YOU HAVE A REGISTRY ERROR. TRY RESTORING IT FROM A BACKUP, OR USE A BOOT DISC TO GO TO WINDOWS AND RUN A REGISTRY CHECKER. AND PLEASE DON'T YELL.

Sorry i use caps at work and forgot to lower case. I dont have a backup i brought the laptop at a yard sale and when i plug he that is what happens. i cant get into safe mode or last config because the same thing happens  and shuts down and starts up and get the same blue screen.

If a friend has an OS install disc, try using it as a boot disc and install a new operating system. You can't do anything about the problem as far as I know of.

Any CD's with this machine ? ?
When buying a used machine the first step should always be a format and clean install...
I doubt Dell would still ship you ME CD's but it won't cost a thing to ask.

i didnt get any thing with this that why it was 10.00 a yard sale.. can i use any os system disc... i have a acer aspire 4000 at home and this is a dell.

The Acer CD will not install to the Dell...
What are your goals for this $10.00 special ? ?

That sounds like an issue instead of a goal...
Again what do you want to do with this laptop and how much do you want to spend ? ?

If it originally came with WinME your options may be severely limited...

My goal is to my everyone happy in my household not sure on how much i would like to spend just asking questions to see if i can fix myself and i believe it has windows 2000 prof on it to

It started out with WinME and now it'sWin2K...
DLoad and install and run Everest Home on this machine so we can see what we're dealing with and we'll go from there...

Save the report as a text file and post ony the computer summary portion and we'll get you fixed up,

1.  Everest Home.  Patio:  I don't think MONKEY1968 has been able to successfully boot the machine; hence the ten dollar "acquisition" price.  (So they won't be installing Everest Home on it anytime soon.)

2.  Operating System(s).  Is there a Certificate of Authenticity (COA) sticker on the laptop that identifies the original operating system?  What does it say?

You think it currently has Windows 2000 Professional installed on it because...  Why?

Do you get an operating system selection list (and is Recovery Console one of them)?

If you tap F8 function key once or twice a second as system starts, what startup choices appear in the Windows Advanced Options menu?

3.  BSOD.  See if this works:  Press the Pause/Break key the instant the BSOD display appears to pause the boot process so you can read the BSOD.
