The laptop is a Toshiba Tecra A2 running Windows XP. There's this problem that i came across just recently. It sounds weird but all the CD's work except these 4 or 5 which i got a while back. And these 4 or 5 CD's work perfectly on another laptop which is a HP having Windows Vista. Also i did try them on a third laptop which is a Toshiba Satellite and those few discs don't seem to work on any of the Toshiba's but work fine only on the HP.
A possible workaround would be to copy the contents and store it in some other external device and then transfer it to the Toshiba laptops but that would be a little difficult although possible. But i still want to know why this problem is occurring and if there is a solution or fix to it?

Are they CD-R/RW or are they store bought, also are there any scratches or marks on them?

they are mostly CD-R...no there are no visible scratches or marks...they work on another computer properly but dont work in these two specific ones...

If they're home made CDs, some CD drives are picky about CD brand, and Toshiba is probably the pickiest :)

oh.. guess i didn't know about Toshiba's pickiness! well there's no other option except to copy the cd's...anyway thanks for replying! :)

For the ones that don't work you can use the Free edition of ISOBuster to extract the raw data to an empty folder...then burn them on the Toshiba and they should work fine...
BTW are these movies ? ?

thanks for the program patio! No, they're not movies....most of them are audio and i think only one of them has a video....

It's also useful for retrieving data off CD's that have not been finalised and show as empty otherwise... ;)
